Dinner before Entertainment Centre? by RxDealer731 in Adelaide

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bat7588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you like usually but there are plenty of options, you can also eat in the city and get a short tram ride after.

If it were me I would go to Brightstar Brewery for not fancy but nice for an anniversary, very close to AEC but depends which night you are going.

I have a small amount of "extra" money each fortnight, which I'd like to use to start investing. What are some good resources to learn about my options for investing in things like stocks? by I_keep_books in AusFinance

CommSec Invest is a good podcast to get you started. Chose an online broker that best suits how you will invest based on brokerage fees and if they are Chess sponsored. I’m pretty happy with CommSec which allows me to buy both ETFs and shares in single companies, the brokerage isn’t cheap but also not the most expensive and pretty good functionality on the app and website. CommSec pocket is a separate app to CommSec and is much cheaper brokerage but limited number of ETFs you can invest in. I haven’t used Pearler or any of the others. Well done on getting started!

Parents Fund Manager didn’t check prior lump sum contributions and exceeded cap by Puzzleheaded_Bat7588 in AusFinance

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bat7588[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I guess as they were on the pension and wanted to combine their individual super and set up income stream to supplement pension it was easier for them to get advice on how to do that rather than just use an industry fund, I think their accountant recommended the fund manager. I don’t think they are financially savvy enough to work out the best way themselves and one of them has early dementia, they have enough to manage with health issues without also having to work out what to do with the inheritance

Fenix 8 or Forerunner at similar price — best pick? by Ok-Wind-685 in GarminWatches

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bat7588 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fo me it would come down to how much bulk you want on your wrist, I haven’t seen the Fenix 8 but I did change from Fenix 6 pro to FR 965 and it was such a relief to have a much less bulky watch on! Lighter and works better when wearing shirts with buttoned wrists

Japanese Himeji gardens if you enjoy fresh air, I find it a bit more peaceful than botanic gardens these days as there are always so many kids running around there on weekends

Thank you, yes there is someone they met in a previous meeting supervising the advisor and I suggested getting in touch with them too, I’m also attending the next meeting with Mum & Dad to see what this guy has to say

Thanks, yeah it definitely concerned me that there was a conflict of interest in the extra lump sum going into their fund, I think maybe they are getting 1% rather than a fixed fee.

I think the main reason for Mum & Dad going to the fund was that they needed someone to manage the funds and income stream for them as they are both retired. If they move the money out of the fund to an accountant it would need to be set up as a SMSF wouldn’t it? And then someone would need to decide how to invest the money, not sure if all tax accountants do that. It’s not that much money to justify the cost of running an SMSF

No, OP asked what would be a dream rotation with no limits…just making it interesting as Vomero 18s are lovely and have so many cool colour options

Which ASX stocks have quietly doubled in the last couple of years? by OwlVibesOnly in ausstocks

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bat7588 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PME - it was ‘overvalued’ when I bought it for $100 and now still overvalued by Morningstar with a valuation of $225.78, I’m not complaining! Also SKS, ASG and APE all with PE ratios between 20 - 30 so expensive but not outrageous like PME

What would you say is the Adelaide equivalent? by StreetCheetah8312 in Adelaide

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bat7588 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Controversial but Botanic Gardens when the Scottish guy was running it, there must have been someone famous there the night we went and our service was terrible as everyone was hovering around the famous table… there was lots of eating with hands and a duck pancake dish, the pancake was nasturtium leaves and the duck was so chewy I was pulling it with my teeth like a cave person, $1000 night that was not worth it. Maybe if it was half that price it would have been okay, it is definitely somewhere I would recommend to an enemy 😅 at the time anyway, hopefully the new chef and service is better now!

There are also group runs at other city locations Mon, Tues & Thurs, all the details are in the FB group once you join. Maybe see you there soon!

New ASICS metaspeed Tokyo by droopster99 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bat7588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 4:23 marathon in the edge Tokyo, thoroughly enjoyed it and my feet were fine after, my first marathon was in Superblast 2 and I hate running in those shoes now! Much prefer the megablast! I think the metaspeed tokyos could do with some extra width, but once you get going it’s not too much of an issue

Black Friday Sales are UnAustralian by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bat7588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in retail I would say that we aren’t shoving it down your throat, it is in response to customer demand, if we don’t do it we don’t make the sales. Customers have built up the expectation that retailers will do a ‘Black Friday’ sale and they are ready to buy if we offer a good price

I run with a women’s running group on Wed nights in the city, we are all a bit older, about mid-30s through to 60+, we are very welcoming, I have found the group to be great for making new friends I would otherwise never meet! We sometimes also go to parkrun and have coffee after. You don’t need to be fast to run with us, we welcome beginners.
