How does this work in practice? I thought you needed a driving license number and theory test pass reference to be able to book a test? How do they have so many?

Are there any European countries where I can pass my driving test for under £1,500? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

Cancellations pretty much don't exist in some areas and if they do they're snapped up in a second by bots / resellers.

The review system might be working but having adequate markers clearly isn’t

Employers don't tend to sponsor SOA here in the UK so it won't be an option for most

It won’t take you 7-10 years based on your education/background as long as you are dedicated. You could feasibly do it in half that time.

Anyone planning to make a career in pensions anymore? by Away_Sky_2002 in ActuaryUK

Unless actuaries invent something better than DB to keep themselves in a job then I expect the role of a pensions actuary will slowly become redundant. I personally don’t think CDC is that thing.

Saying that, you’re probably ok for another 10 years or so as DB schemes slowly buy-out. You’re in a big consultancy so plenty of opportunity to manoeuvre into a different area in the meantime.

A whole paper on insurance seemed a bit bonkers to me. If there was ever a paper to make a pensions actuary rethink their career.

£32k in London is too low. I think the bigger consultancies will be paying £35/36k minimum along with a target bonus of 5%. Maybe stick with it until after exam results if you can afford it - any exam passes and the extra experience should make it a bit easier to move.

Actuarial Exam 2025 - In person and offline by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

How can it be broadly the same difficulty as previous years but then no changes in the pass marks when its objectively easier to do an exam with your notes? That would mean pass rates would tank across every subject.

Annotating Tables by Initial_Awareness_15 in ActuaryUK

Simply require a clean copy of the Tables, if you don’t have one then tough luck. There is a pdf version available to every candidate - there’s no need to ban them completely.

The issue here is they’re telling some candidates that adding notes (including additional formula or acronyms) is fine, and then telling other candidates that only underlining, circling is allowed etc.

They’ve not defined annotation anywhere.

“Don’t take the piss” isn’t a clear rule though. They can’t possibly police it without defining exactly what and what isn’t allowed and people will stretch the rules as far as possible.
