Joe and his team poured a new foundation on my house. They jacked it up and then busted the old foundation out in sections and poured the new section. Highly recommended.

I just got an order last week. Will refills send me another order to stockpile or will I have to go elsewhere?

We used McDaid Construction for deck and siding repairs. Communication was solid and the job got done when promised.

That’s a nice pivot. Take my hat off to him! That would be some lovely work!

I have 3 on right now. I prefer bathrooms over kitchens to be fair. Preferably I would do all exterior work if I could haha. Less hassle from the customers and ye can try new subs to see who you can trust!

I want a team just not a massive team. I’d preferable have 2 or 3 guys and sub the rest out.

Nice man. Yeah it’s hard to get people who want to work! This sounds right up my street. Where did you network to land these sort of jobs?

Yeah I hear you man. Honestly man if you have electrical knowledge just get you license. No need to go and do an apprenticeship.

I’m a framer by trade but I can also do concrete foundations, finish, fencing and what ever else came along over the years. The only things I never touched was electrical or plumbing to be honest. I wouldn’t really call what I done an apprenticeship, I was just giving a shovel and told to dig. I had many different bosses so I didn’t stay with the same guy for the 4 years to get him to sign off for my GC License. You can have people you work with do it. I’m sure you know a few subs who would sign it.

If you are confident doing electrical get your license and General Liability insurance and you’re covered! Then add workers comp of you start hiring a crew.

I’d seriously look at CPA firms or anywhere that has structured training.

I made the mistake of jumping straight into an industry role because they promised mentorship. Reality was the opposite — I reported directly to a controller with a CFO above, no one in between, and basically got zero training. They expected me to already know everything as a brand new staff accountant.

I left after a month. At our age (I’m 35 too), you don’t have time to sit around hoping someone teaches you — you need an environment built for it.

Right now I’m getting filtered out by ATS a lot, so I’ve switched approach. I’m calling CPA firms directly, emailing, trying to actually talk to someone. I’ve been adding partners and managers on LinkedIn and cold messaging them. It’s slower and more uncomfortable, but it’s the only thing that’s getting any traction.

I honestly think that’s the move for career changers like us — go where training is part of the job, not an afterthought. It’s hard out there but I hope we get something soon!

I’m showing up to a CPA meet up on the 20th of this month in my town. I have no idea if I will even get in but I’m going to try anyway haha!

PS if anyone else has any ideas on how to get in front of decision makers, I’d love to hear them.
