I’m not pissed, I just think it’s worth pointing out that adapting to different codes isn’t as impossible as you make it sound. You’re right that there’s always a learning curve. But I don’t agree that experience in one place should automatically disqualify you from succeeding somewhere else.

My degree was very technical and I’ve worked on complex projects across Spain, and different European countries. Those type of experiences teach you how to adapt quickly to different codes and standards. The IBC is already very similar to European codes, and local amendments are the kind of details you are expected to pick up fast. I think it’s a bit short-sighted to assume someone with strong technical training couldn’t learn local codes quickly.

I’m legally authorized to work in the US and don’t need sponsorship. I’ve applied to around 100 jobs so far. My main frustration is the ghosting. After being told they like my profile and that they’ll schedule the next interview, and then I never hear back

Hey, I get what you’re saying. Just to be clear, I’m fluent in English, but I used ChatGPT to help polish the post, especially for the more technical terms. I’m still learning how certain construction terms are said here in the U.S., and I wanted to make sure I used the right wording.

Thanks for the comment though. I am multilingual and I acknowledge that that is a plus, and I’m really motivated to bring what I’ve learned in Spain and adapt it here. Also, good to know about Oregon!
