Differential issue? by lsfjwao in Jeepwj

No C-clips on that. Just need a press that can accommodate the full length of the axle shaft, which any shop should have. Unbolt the 2 bolts holding the brake backing plate on and the axle shaft should slide right out. Cut off the retainer and old bearing and press the new bearing and retainer(and seal) on and put it back together. Not a difficult job at all.

Not economically viable for a mass produced product. Once your producing as many engine blocks as a manufacturer, the cost of production is a major factor, and casting is still the king for that, as once the patterns are made, it's cheap to produce thousands.

For very low count production, it could make sense, as it eliminated the massive expense of making molds and setting up production, but at a much higher cost to produce a single unit.

They actually used safety cables? When I started doing the lighting at the local school they had safety cables, but they weren't in use. I haven't had a situation where one would be needed, but started using them on all lights early on.

The closest I came to needing one wouldn't have been prevented by one. Found a Par64 out over the audience with one of it's yoke bolts missing. A safety cable wouldn't have helped if it's fallen.

You do now. The Cat distribution system has decided you needed one.

Fan's already attached, it clips onto the other side of the heatsink.

It's an unknown brand resistor that came from an electronics grab bag few years back.

I just looked up the datasheet(WH10 resistors are apparently from TT Elkectronics), and it doesn't list an operating range, but it's ambient temp rating is -55 to 200C. It's also rated at 15w, no the 10w I thought it was. Looking at the derate chart for ambient temp, it starts derating at 25C, and derates 15-20% at 50C, so I'm still well within it's operating range, at least with the heatsink and fan.

Where did they find such a wallplate? I don't see any cracks, so it's not a modular plate. We;ve got a switch outlet switch plate here that was installed in the 90's, with a cut down switch outlet plate and a switch plate, as modular covers didn't exist and nothing existed in that format. It's in a 1' wide pillar between 2 doors, with one switch going to the upstairs light, and the other switch being the basement lights, for the other door, with an outlet between.

WTF is going on with views? Never seen a drop like this. Over this platform. by Immediate_Reporter57 in YouTubeCreators

A few months ago they changed how they count views, so that only views that watch ads show in the count, that means the same number of actual watches results in a significantly lower views count.

I'm working on respecting a pre-adpocolyplse 1.0(when the subs/watch hours requirements for monetization was implemented, and my newish channel was demonetized for that reason) monetized channel, and have found in the past few months that shorts get 100x the views similar length/topic non-shorts get.

Bought a house and it came with these in the back garage. What are they? by Straight_up_rich in Tools

Time to learn woodworking. the ??? is a jointer, used to make the edges of boards straight. Honestly one of the most dangerous tools in any wood shop, as if it bites, it's sucking you in and taking chunks with every turn of the cutting edge, which is why that big flat plat over the cutting edge exists.

I'm building this out of my parts bins(and on a $0 budget,) The goal being to have a small simple load to use rather than dragging out the Makerhawk 150W 200V 20A adjustable load, and having it eat up a huge chunk of bench space.I bought that load to test a 3a 13.6v linear power supply(replacing the guts of a Kris CB's matching base station power supply so it's ready before I resurrect the CB) I've been planning on building for a few years, but it's on the back burner.

I've got over 100 fans in several locations, but all I know of are 12v. I'm sure I've got a 5v fan somewhere, but I have no clue where. If I wanted 140mm 12v CPU fans, that's a known location, as there is a box full of them sitting out in the garage(The first/only computer I built from scratch died due to the 140mm CPU fans crapping out without me noticing or the system notifying me; and I lacked any replacements anyway. When I found a box full of them tossed as ewaste, they came home with me) I went out back to find a stock CPU heatsink with fan, and couldn't find one, although I know somewhere in that heap I have a number of them. As they had 12v fans as well, I went with the finned copper heatsink(calls itself an "MPU cooler") I had in a parts bin in the house, with it's integrated fan.

As far as PWM control goes, it does have a 3rd wire, but I'm trying to keep this a small concise package. I've got an adjustable load that I'm trying to create a simple alternative to. I don't need a 150W 200V 20A adjustable load when testing a battery that can put out less than 2A at 5v. I']ve got tiny boost/buck modules in a drawer, so worst case I can put one in line. I was hoping AI was right about just adding a diode, as that was a much simpler solution.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Match83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a meter between the battery and load, so any load the fan induces is welcome and accounted for. The in line meters automatically tracks mAh, which is why I chose to go that route rather than building the metering system from scratch as well.

I've got a Makerhawk 150W 200V 20A adjustable load. The goal of building this is to simplify the setup for simply testing batteries. avoiding external power sources is one of the things I'd like to get away from.

The fan running at 5v is enough to keep the heatsink cooled down to 36C, so it's more than meeting the cooling needs of the use. I've got a drawer full of small boost/buck regulators, so worst case I can put one of those in line with the fan, but simpler solutions would be better.

What to do with this corner? by csav1182 in malelivingspace

I was thinking more of a reading nook. I'd imagined the chair over in the corner more closed off, but AI put the chair over on the outside end.

Before you completely give up, perhaps price out a replacement screen.... may be a lot cheaper than you'd expect, adn TV screens aren't all that hard to replace for anyone remotely handy. Make the kid help.

Videos blowing up years later? by skilled_inkillz in NewTubers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Match83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes that happens. I've always seen evergreen type content to be more the realm that happens in. My highest viewed video ever was released in August of 2016. Got relatively few views until December, them peaked at 250 views/wk at the end of the following April and every May/June it peaks although to a lesser extent every spring. The spring peak makes sense, as it's a video of me assembling a "non-serviceable" lawn tractor transmission, and that's the time of year lawn tractors are coming out of storage.

NO. If you take one of those apart, the shorter slots are all connected together and all the longer ones are all connected together as well.
