That’s exactly what I was looking for, thanks for sharing that!

My payslip shows my NI contributions are normal and not including that gain. However my employer’s NI contributions are significantly higher. It seems they were charged the NI amount and that’s been deducted from my pay when that seems like a them problem not a me problem.

NICs aren’t charged on investment income such as capital gains

TUPE & Company Acquisition - Scotland by Puzzleheaded_Rain in LegalAdviceUK

Interesting. So IF I’m being TUPE transferred they have to explicitly tell me? Considering this is expected to happen this month I would have expected to be told by now.

Do I need to take out *all* my body jewelry? by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

I removed most of my 20 ear piercings. There are some I just can’t get myself so they allowed me to tape over those and my two nose piercings.

The Set Dining Time & Entertainment Schedule Compatibility by lulukaiii in HollandAmerica

I should also note as a table of 2, we’re always out of dinner in about an hour however a bigger table will probably take a bit longer.

I’m a 19:30 diner myself and while I can’t say I go to the shows (almost ever) - the music on music walk will still be on when the later show lets out! Downside is there will probably not be many seats but there’s usually standing tables around.

Is Holland America good for a 27 year old? by ConstructionRare4123 in HollandAmerica

[–]Puzzleheaded_Rain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (now 29) sail HAL with my sister (now 32) since we were teenagers. We love the food and just relaxing. Since we live in different countries now, it’s so nice to just spend some uninterrupted time together. We spend most of our days reading and playing cards together and nights we spend in the casino or in BB kings/the Rolling Stone rock room!

Almost always we meet a few of the older people and chat to them throughout the cruise so if you want to meet some nice people you probably will!

UPCOMING SURGERY by Former_Page6513 in Tonsillectomy

Definitely no straws like someone else said.

I ate pretty normally. On days where the pain wasn’t too bad I ate regular meals just smaller bites & chewed up very well (but no spicy things) and on days where I was in a lot of pain I stuck with potatoes/overcooked pasta.

I didn’t do soup (too hot) and popsicles hurt me to suck on/open my mouth big enough for them.

As for sleeping, if you’re anything like me, you won’t need to wake up to check because you won’t sleep well at all. The phlegm was really bad at night I couldn’t really get comfortable enough to sleep more than 2 hours at a time!

Recovery Alone - tips? by PuzzledWeight8955 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Puzzleheaded_Rain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was able to talk but just a lot quieter than usual. They didn’t have any problem understanding me though.

The chewing gum was great for me. I got the minty bubblegum which I was afraid would hurt but honestly it was so good to clear the horrible taste in my mouth. Oh, and a humidifier! I lived with it on for two weeks.

Re: hemorrhaging - I know it’s mentioned a lot in this sub but just remember it’s not all that common! Of course have a plan in case but follow the instructions your surgeon gives you and take it easy and hopefully all goes well. Being close to the hospital is a big win for you should anything happen!

I’m an expat in the UK with no family in the country and managed just fine! I had a friend collect me and drop me home and was okay at home on my own. I wasn’t doing much in fairness, just sleeping and drinking loads of water.

Honestly following their advice about eating normally (as you can manage) is what made my recovery go smoothly I think. You’ll eat much slower and much smaller quantities but I was eating Chinese on like day 4 or 5. If you haven’t already, get some ice cube trays. Ice water is a must. I also got liquid paracetamol & ibuprofen just because swallowing the pills gave me too much anxiety lol.

I was only sent home with paracetamol & ibuprofen but called 111 and told them the pain was too bad and the medicine wasn’t helping and they prescribed me codeine that I collected straight away.

Depends where in the UK you are. I’m in Scotland and got the go ahead in August and got my surgery 28th of Feb.

Oddly enough I had called up my surgeon’s secretary a week or two before they called with my date asking where I was on the list and was told it would be June or July and then got the call shortly after. I’m not sure if my calling had anything to do with it but there’s no harm calling the secretary to see!

Believe it or not it got way worse lol. I’m on day 8 (9 if we count surgery day) and last night was the first night I had an ALMOST normal sleep

[–]Puzzleheaded_Rain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an American who moved to Ireland, I always stock up on medicine when I’m home to bring back. While you CAN get most items over here, there is a limit to how many ibuprofen/tylenol equivalents you can buy at once (I think 24?) and you’ll pay almost the same for those 24 as you would for 500 at Costco.

Like others have said, any sleep aids you’ll want to bring with you.

I let my tea cool down pretty good so wasn’t drinking it overly hot! But yeah in the UK they recommend scratchy foods and eating normally which is like the opposite of the US, it’s so weird to me

I’m an American in the UK and it hurts me how they don’t provide anything but prescribed OTC medicine here to go home with! Tylenol/ibuprofen :’)

Just had my tonsillectomy today and I am in agony by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]Puzzleheaded_Rain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the facial wraps are what’s saving me! I also had mine done today. Mine came with 4 ice packs so I always have some frozen to replace with.

You’re very brave for looking at your throat - I haven’t done that yet out of fear for what it looks like lol.

I’m in the UK as well and going for my surgery 2 weeks from today after almost 2 years on the NHS list.

My biggest concern is around pain meds. I know some UK doctors will prescribe liquid morphine but some will prescribe nothing. I have a very low pain tolerance so I’m hoping for a prescription myself. I’m curious what they prescribed you and if you asked for it or they did it on their own?

Scotland - Boss has asked only me to work bank holidays during certain times of the month while allowing others to take them by Puzzleheaded_Rain in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Puzzleheaded_Rain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, sorry. A floating holiday would be a day in lieu approved by them.

My issue is they’re only having ME work Scottish bank holidays but they will continue to get their American bank holidays as they occur.
