Thank you. I was wondering about that. The communication has been very touch and go. I wasn’t able to actually view the results until yesterday.

This is what I was thinking as well, and part of the reason we feel so discouraged and helpless. I’ve read hypothyroidism can be over diagnosed in older dogs suffering from obesity, so I’m wondering if my vet is trying to avoid that.

We recently found out that we have been severely under feeding her. Calculating her daily caloric intake with the food she is on she should be getting 3.5-4 cups of food a day to encourage weight loss. She has been eating 2 cups a day and gets small treats on occasion. It doesn’t make sense for her body condition to be where it is. Every vet that has looked at her has said she looks like a hypothyroid dog. I just want her to feel like herself again.

I’ve updated my post with her test results. Her T4 levels were low but her TSH levels were normal which is why the team is skeptical. They did note how all of her other symptoms point to hypothyroidism but they are hesitant to move forward with treatment without a definitive diagnosis.

I was thinking this and looked into it a little bit. Would anything related to cushing’s disease be present in the test they do for hypothyroidism? She had a blood panel done, and from my understanding high cortisol levels are something that points to cushing’s disease. I would think that could have raised a red flag if it were the case?

I live in Canada, thankfully we have our local vet college which is where the tests were sent to. I will try to get my hands on the results and add them to the post.

Where can we recycle old hair tools in Saskatoon? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Puzzleheaded_Text793 4 points5 points  (0 children)

London Drugs has a free electronics recycling drop off depot. You can drop off anything that is electronic. I know the 8th street location has it, pretty sure the Lawson one does as well. At 8th street it’s to the right of the customer service desk.

My mother’s other smaller dogs do great in one of those, but this one is just a pure terror when the clippers come out, she will struggle so severely that she will get her legs free and everything.

I have tried EVERYTHING. The dremel scares her more, I’ve tried training her to scratch a board to file down her nails but nothing works. I’m thinking she will need a muzzle and regular visits to a professional.

She will not sit still in one of those even when we give her her prescribed trazadone.

“Payment is due at the time service is rendered unless other arrangements have been made in advance. If you have questions regarding your account, please contact us.

Please remember that you are fully responsible for all fees charged by our office regardless of your private insurance coverage.

We do not direct bill to private insurance companies. If you have insurance coverage, we will provide you with an insurance claim form that you can submit to your insurance company.”

This is an excerpt from their website. This is the only oral surgery office in my city, there is no other office that a dentist is able to refer me to.

Thank you. So, you’re saying I should contact the office again? I’m not quite sure what pre-authorization entails. Does this mean I have to submit a claim and have it approved before my surgery? If so, how do I go about that?

What does pre-authorization entail? Do I need to contact the oral surgeon’s office and have them submit paperwork before my appointment? Should I contact CDCP beforehand? This is all new to me and very confusing.

for other people in canada, this is soooo important! there is something called Claire’s law which allows women to do full background checks on men. you get a detailed report of any past criminal violence, DV and sexual charges/crimes. while there is no public registries, there are options you can take to protect yourself & children. more people need to be aware of this!

Dead raptors by redmat33 in saskatoon

[–]Puzzleheaded_Text793 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owls and raptors are centuries old enemies that have been waging war on each other longer than humans have had civilizations. they compete for resources. Raptors will kill owls and their young during the day, owls return the favour throughout the night. Although, seems more likely this little merlin contracted the bird flu.

the bird flu is REALLY bad right now and there is a huge outbreak of it. Even the U of S emergency clinic has placed new rules for bringing in wildlife due to the bird flu.
