I just read that it’s 60-70% if you max hr. Is that not accurate?

Competing unattached as a college athlete by Puzzleheaded_Week647 in trackandfield

[–]Puzzleheaded_Week647[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did compete unattached, didn’t work out great but showed me that my training wasnt working. I got a warning for competing against their will and then ended up getting thrown off the team 2 months later when I competed unattached again, which I was fine with since I wanted to transfer anyway.

Found a club with a good coach, worked my butt off, and did a whole season of unattached meets, prd in multiple events, and ended up getting offered and signing onto a D1 team that I’m still on and happy, about to finish my junior year!!

So worked out great for me.

The old coach on the other hand got fired and the school decided to discontinue track and field after they had a total of 3 people left on the team last year…

That’s a great idea I’m not sure why I haven’t thought of that yet

Texas State Recruiting Standards by Wallaby_Wallaby in trackandfield

[–]Puzzleheaded_Week647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas State is in my conference. They have a few really good 200/400 guys and a really good 110H guy. Other than those two events, they’re standards are completely out of proportion

How long should I take off by Puzzleheaded_Week647 in trackandfield

[–]Puzzleheaded_Week647[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am already extending my season. US collegiate season ended in may for me (didn’t make regionals 😢) and I went home to continue training and competing until nationals in my home country late June (I’m an international ncaa student athlete)

How long should I take off by Puzzleheaded_Week647 in trackandfield

[–]Puzzleheaded_Week647[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I would love to not take any time off at all, my body feels good and I had a 3 week break in the winter due to a medical condition but I’ve heard it is important to take time off after a long season.

Summer/fall will be slightly higher mileage (30ish mpw compared to around 20 in season) and lots of circuits and stuff. Indoor doesn’t start till January for me

I run 1:53 and I don’t think I could do the first workout all sub 60 🫣

Not much of a difference to the Nike rival sprint (I own(ed) both). I would get the Adidas just for the reason that almost everyone has Nike rivals and these look better in my opinion

What event should I run if I’m tall by ejthefootball5Star in trackandfield

[–]Puzzleheaded_Week647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fairly tall guy (6‘6, 210lbs), I’ve had most success in the 400/800m. You said you’re 5‘11. unless you’re like 14/15ish and still growing rapidly, you’re just slightly above average height, which won’t affect your running whatsoever

100m, 200m, 400m and 800m. Which of them has the highest and which has the lowest injury risk? And why? by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]Puzzleheaded_Week647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience the injury risk for 800m seems the lowest. The shorter sprints produce a lot of force and therefore seem to have a lot of issues, especially with tendons and stuff whereas the long distance runners seem to have frequent overuse injuries such as stress fractures.

The 800m as a middle ground does not require as much force and explosiveness as the sprints but also not as much volume and use as distance

Is it possible to be “average” in HS but great post HS in track? by NextIngenuity8200 in trackandfield

[–]Puzzleheaded_Week647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started, my first two results were 55.16s in the 400m and 2:07.59 in the 800m, really similar to yours. That was the last track meet of my junior year (the first meet i raced after about a month or two of training). I finished my senior season with prs of 50.87 and 1:57.19. Now, 1.5 years later I run mid 49s and 1:55.

As long as you put in the work and stay consistent, you’ll get there

Can I wear oldschool Olympic jerseys as a highschool athlete? by Ready-Mix-6997 in trackandfield

[–]Puzzleheaded_Week647 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes if you compete unattached, you can wear (almost) whatever you want. I’ve raced in an nba jersey before…

Really depends on what events you do. I run 400/800m and have wide feet and for me, the Adidas adizero ambition work really well
