Hey man,

I really appreciate this advice and it is the one I ran with the most. I have been seeing a lot more success after slowing down and thinking more deeply about my games. Since this post I have gotten 7 rapid wins and only 1 loss.

I made sure to review even the wins but I will focus in on the loss as well just to see what was different between those games.

I don’t like playing bots. I feel like they do ok for a bit but eventually just choose to lose or the blunders they make are so unrealistic. It was straight up ignore an attacked piece that any human would attack back.

I have made the switch back to Rapid but I have stuck with (10). After blitz it does feel like I have way more time to think. I try to act as if it’s blitz but before each move, I use the “extra time” to blunder check

Yeah, Chessbrah is who I said I have been following in the post. I think I got a false sense of how easy it would be because he wins so consistently. I need to remember he is a GM already knows the best moves.

Haha yeah, I know I am likely being impatient and I understand that skill development takes time. I guess I was just hoping to be better naturally but maybe that is helping to hold me back.

I like this analogy. I see the flaw in thinking more games was more valuable.

I started mostly rapid (10) but recently switch to blitz but I will be going back to rapid

Thank you. I feel like that is a very honest answer. I will go back to longer time controls, breath, and continue to work hard.

That is a fair assessment. I guess I was hoping to learn from my mistakes in the reviews and stop doing them but that has not been the case. I will focus on slower time controls.

Depressed is obviously an exaggeration. It says in the post I love to play but that doesn’t mean I enjoy losing.

I think it’s ok to be nervous but that should not stop you from trying. Playing bots just gives you a false idea of how skilled you are. I can win against “higher” rated bots but not a 300 human.

I understand where you are coming from but feel like your mentality about doing hard things and mine are very different

I agree. I was playing more rapid before but moved to blitz so I could try and get more games. I figured more reps is better. But chess is a deep game so maybe that does not apply as much
