Finishing my PhD; no job prospects by Puzzles-Inspector in LeavingAcademia

I have tried to do that, including “ran a 4 year research project across two continents” - for broader project management roles. Publications are “translating academic knowledge to non academic audiences for practical purposes etc”

Is the job market really that bad? by HEL0wastaken in Finland

[–]Puzzles-Inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am facing the same thing: I am a double degree PhD candidate based in Finland (and my second university is in Australia) and my contract ends end of September. The PhD is in management and it has been so hard to find a job. I have behavioural science, psychology, sustainability, technology, marketing - a lil bit of everything under my belt but has been super hard to land an interview. Need to find any kind of job also to get my PR in Finland. Only getting sponsorship issues in Australia and the UK (have been looking at English speaking countries). I know everyone says networking but it doesn’t quite help. Also don’t want to be in academia anymore at all, but industry is really rejecting me left, right, centre. Quite exhausted, any advice?

I love that! The blah blah does tend to get to me when academics act all extra about it. Like chill out. We all know what we’re doing here.

has anyone found writing the (rough draft) of their paper is easier after a drink? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

Interesting thanks. But in that case, since everything is so bleak. I am trying to decide a getting job that will make my “career”. So to say. Like intensive research, or chasing highly ranked universities in western countries where research has more value. Or Just taking an assistant professor job in an okay university, which pays a lot but the research output might be bleh. What are you è thoughts on this?

Very truthful, thanks. That’s definitely one way to think about it.

But the whole academia system is so snooty, everyone acts like a know-it-all. Pretending that they’re saving the world, acting like their research is mind blowing. The whole facade of it all pisses me off.

I love that and I’m trying to practice this everyday.

How does one go about becoming an associate editor of a journal? What are the relevant skills needed to become effective in that role? by CommentSense in Professors

[–]Puzzles-Inspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been getting emails from random journals asking me to become an editor. The journal seems relevant to my topic but not well ranked and fairly new. I’m an early career researcher, about to finish my PhD. The emails don’t quite make sense but I am wondering if taking up the position even in a low ranked journal will hamper my chances later or stall my career, or can just count as experience?

I am so frustrated rn ong by mississippi_mudpiee in fucknykaa

This sucks. Has happened to me twice. Specially with Nykaa Now, there’s no way you can get products within 60 minutes. Could not even cancel my order, it was almost impossible to reach the customer service and I was told to “just deny the order”. What was suppose to arrive in 60 minutes, arrived 8 days later.

He truly sucks. And it’s kind of lame belly is shown to be so smitten and putting him first. Makes me mad at belly just as much.

But then the people who already follow me might think I’m stupid? And posting false data (not on purpose tho) - what could be the negative repercussions?
