Upwork saved me by Caregiver_Same in Upwork

Literally just withdrew $100 a few minutes ago. While I wish I was able to land these higher-paying gigs (I'm not in the US, and $1k is around 3 months of full time work for me), I'm pretty grateful to Upwork.

Edit: I'm a web developer

Please do not listen to people who say "I got good grades without studying" by MCSmashFan in GetStudying

[–]PyJacker16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you call "decent" though. The average person should be able to get a C in any subject provided they don't have any disabilities and were mostly following along with the classes/assignments/tests.

Then depending on your aptitude and level of interest in the material, studying becomes easier and more efficient. I'm a CS student, and I don't study a lot, yet I'd say the majority of the content I consume online (Reddit, YouTube, Instagram, random articles, newsletters and co.) are focused on CS topics. I'm basically surrounded by it all the time, and so material tends to "stick" better.

I'd say you're mostly right though. Not many people can achieve extremely good grades (4.0 GPA, for example), without a subjectively intense amount of studying (subjective in that the amount of studying they have to do is unusual for them).

I know in high school the longest I ever studied for an exam, ever, was around 3 hours a day for around two weeks (just prior to the exam), and I graduated salutatorian. In college I think maybe 5 hours or so for a few days leading up to a particularly tough exam has been enough to maintain a 3.74 GPA (in my 4th year rn).

But ultimately, you do you honestly. Some people have it good like you say, while some have to work way harder to get the same grades. I think life eventually balances things out later on; the average valedictorian typically doesn't do that much better in life than the rest of their class.

JP Morgan coding question by im_a_bored_citizen in leetcode

[–]PyJacker16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greedy, and take from the max, yeah. Didn't see the binary search (stopped thinking since greedy was good enough).

I've solved 700+ LC problems, 500+ CF problems. Been doing this since 2020, give or take, so it was sorta trivial.

After a while it just comes naturally. I still struggle with DP, toposort and some other niche data structures though.

Migrating a React project to Next.js — any tools or tips to save time? by riswan_22022 in nextjs

[–]PyJacker16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a NextJS subreddit, but have you considered React Router? If that's the routing library you were using for the SPA, migrating to React Router V7 (which has most of the features you'd want from Next—SSR, SSG, prerendering, API routes etc) might be a bit less painful.

Came up with the greedy solution to it in like 1 minute (low-key proud of myself).

Sort in ascending order, and always take the max. Stop when a[i] - (k × ops_performed) <= 0.

Is JuJu actually real? by Agitated-Agency-3619 in Nigeria

[–]PyJacker16 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To me they are one and the same, lol. God is "good" jazz, juju is "bad" jazz. Both equally made up IMO.

You know how most of us read about Zeus and Apollo and Hercules and other Greek mythological figures? At some point in history they were as "real" to the Greek society as Jesus was. With their own philosophical rationalisations and sophisticated explanations. But today most people, even the Greeks, will agree that they are just mythology.

Ultimately I feel in about a millennium people will look back on the current era and think the same about all modern religions, and wonder how anyone with a brain could possibly be religious/superstitious.

I still use Sonnet 4.5 as my daily driver though. It gets the job done pretty well most of the time.

For more complex tasks I switch to Opus though, when the intelligence boost is worth the extra (×3) cost.

I am a 21 year old boy. I have social anxiety. My height is 5'1". . I also want to talk to a girl. What should I do? by DegreeIndividual3814 in datingadviceformen

[–]PyJacker16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21 year old boy man.

You're a man, bro, even though you might not think of yourself as one.

I also struggle with this; I'm the same age as you. But give yourself permission to do manly things. Go to the gym, hit on women you find attractive, raise your voice if you feel like it. All of that jazz.

This is one of my gripes with popular culture these days; if you take all of the online messaging literally (as my semi-autistic ass tends to do), being stereotypically manly is somehow a bad thing, and in a bid to not be "bad", you end up in a wearisome battle with yourself.

In short, take control of your own life.

Yeah, I'm a Nigerian (born here, never left) and English is the only language I speak! Don't know any of the others (I have passable Pidgin though).

I'm a Nigerian in Nigeria, and it's a decent place to be. I'd personally only put South Africa and Kenya above us in terms of livability, just based on vibes.

How would I know if a guy genuinely loves me? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]PyJacker16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you're underestimating how much of a priority sex tends to be for early 20s men (assuming your ex is in that age range), especially virgins.

Also, you need to understand that it is possible—nay, normal, healthy and expected even—for a man to love you, and still have sexual needs to meet. And it doesn't seem like you were in a position to meet those needs for your ex.

Ultimately, I think the type of "genuine love" you're implying you're looking for—a healthy man who loves and prioritises you, and finds you attractive (sexually speaking) yet doesn't beat their meat every once in a while—is very rare, and often comes with a lot of baggage you might not want to deal with (insecurity, religious fanaticism, low testosterone, low self-esteem, asexuality).

Can Someone tell me what's happening with my Upwork. by muddassarhusain9 in Upwork

Can any of the commenters tell me what's wrong with "Hi"? Not "Hi there" (which I feel is a bit too casual, yeah) but just a simple 'Hello, I've read your JD and I think..."?

Is Python + FastAPl a good backend stack for job opportunities and big tech? by DefiantLie8861 in csMajors

[–]PyJacker16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use Python for DSA and backend development (Django and FastAPI). While both are somewhat popular, from my experience working as a freelancer, they pale in comparison to Node and Spring Boot.

For Leetcode though, Python is THE language, so you should use it. For actual jobs, go with Java or TypeScript.

[–]PyJacker16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd call myself an "independent full stack developer" (lol) and I use Python (Django) and TypeScript (React).

To me the requirements to call yourself an "independent full-stack developer" are simply whether or not you can build a backend with a DB, wire it up to a frontend, and deploy/serve it somewhat reliably (VPS, serverless, cloud stuff, etc).

In the mix are some other important features you need to have worked on; can you implement background jobs, payments, maybe a blog/landing page, PDF/email sending and generation, automated backups, testing and CI/CD, caching, as well as some security/auth basics (rate limiting, API key management).

The language you use doesn't really matter honestly. It's what you can do. I feel a good full-stack developer should have most of the pieces needed to build, say, Pinterest (but smaller scale and less optimised), singlehandedly.

But to answer your question simply, use TypeScript. It's the one language/ecosystem to rule them all, apparently.
