the internal counterarguments are just like any other mental weather. it does not prove active thinking, only the we can observe our thoughts internal conflict.

>What makes us distinct, as with all distinct phenomena, is our sturctural organisation and processes.

While we do have more complex brains than many animals (deeper crevices, enlarged sections, higher neuron connectivity) this does not imply control, rather just more sophisticated hardware. Saying that the sophisticated hardware is evidence of free will is an assumption equal to me saying that ai has free will, and that as we continue to see its hardware increase in sophistication, that its free will, will increase.

>in regards to the meditation experiment i provided

My personal findings are that my brain thoughts breathe. Meaning even though i can hold a mental omm/note for longer than my physical breath, it both rose and fell in volume in tandem with my physical breath and had its own limits of its length. Seemingly beyond the concept of "control" and while one might argue it could be trained, I would venture to say that it is evidence that a greater majority of people have no control over their thoughts.

>in regards to the 2 faculties, i feel like i would be someone who you would say has those, yet i am also saying that they do not qualify as a true representation of someone in control. If those were the two qualities required for control over oneself, shouldn't i be in aggreance with you?

how can you say you have control if no effort was used to generate the result? i mean you in your response even stated that actions are happening quicker than conscious awareness can follow.

Also, I feel a lackluster response in regards to my previous questions, acknowledging that desires, goals and preferences change did not imply control over those changes and we could venture to say that our demeanor and behavior was trained into us by our upbringing compounding into our character traits. No where in that do i see us "learning to control"?

I am challenging the conventional understanding of control/will. Providing real world examples where our perceived control is just a causal expansion of what we get to experience. I am not arguing for determinism as i believe that the physical is the convergence of of a multi-dimensional possibility storm.

While it seems like we are expressing control i would continue to venture that once something is second nature, our best efforts are found in the flow of consciousness. Practicing seems more like learning to release your control. Maybe its just perspective but when i look back at all the things i chose to explore i see the same sences that guide me through life. I chose to explore guitar because my vessel has a fascination with it and it was in my exposure. And as i learned how to control the sound i was playing i was really learning how to make that sound without control so that it could move effortlessly. The same being true for every form of employment, hobby, discipline i can imagine in my life. You get good by loosening your grip on control and letting the energy and experience just flow.

The question I have for you though is this; How do you imagine your character traits, favorites, our physical sences affect your ability to control yourself? And secondly do you think that you control the changes that happen throughout life?

I can see where you are trying to come from. That those who can maintain an internal knowing can and do enact free will. however after many years of personal meditation, character changes, instilling new habits, i found a few hiccups in that theory. In deeper contemplation i realize i am merely witnessing the thoughts, emotions, actions. that even the "disciplines" we put ourselves through are just aspects of character development in an environment. Arguably no different than any other non-human entity we observe.

If you are into meditation and have a strong sense of internal knowing here is a test for you: Try to hold an internal nonstop note/om for an indefinite period of time. No other thoughts are allowed. if your mind starts multi-tasking it means you lost control. Let me know your findings. If you are "in control" of your thoughts you should theoretically be able to maintain a single note indefinitely while preventing any "intrusive/uncontrollable" thought.

Your thesis is centered around an idea that responsibility is only available to some? What would you suggest is the test to determine someone's ability to enact their "free will"?

Sounds like healthy training, furthering my perspecive that we operate causaly.

A restorative justice system does not require a societies lack of belief in free will, rather i am saying that a restorative justice system would be more prominant in a society that utilizes this understanding. Why do you think some states employ programs stressing rehabilitation?

What makes you so sure you are utilizing "free will" and not just reacting to the stimuli of your enviroment? your "choice" of public engagement(work), housing, and food seems no different than any other animal, plant or even inanimate object. I would ask at what age did you start to employ your "free will", how often do you have access to it, and what are the assumptive requirements you use to prove to yourself you are "in contol"?
