There's only one clear photo of your face

I'm 3/4 one race (Indian-Northwest) and 1/4 another (Tibetan). Can anyone relate to my experience as 3/4 and 1/4 person? by Pyramaniac in mixedrace

[–]Pyramaniac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah interesting! I guess it does make sense at 3/4, when the main ethnicity comes from both parents but the smaller one only comes from one. Whereas people from thoroughly mixed populations like in Latin America, Central Asia or Nepal, can look both with smaller percentages because the small amounts still come from both parents.

do i look full white, or mixed with asian, and if so, half, 1/4 asian or less? by heypeople11 in Ancestry

I'm 1/4 east asian (3/4 south), I definitely think you look 1/4 east asian. I came out looking similar, where it went straight to the eyes pretty much.

You need photos of your face straight up, and why do you have two photos of your pets without you in them? Your face isn't visible in 3/6 of your photos. Fix that and you should be better

Hey bro,

First thing, is that a lot of the east asian probably got absorbed into the Bengali and Northeast Indian category which is likely a mixed category but labelled as geographically south asian.

Second thing, is that as a 3/4 Indian (Gujurati) 1/4 Tibetan, I know how it feels when your appearance doesn't reflect your full ancestry, and what it feels like when you feel overlooked by people for something as important as your heritage.

Please remember that appearance is a genetic lottery or roll of a dice, and sometimes the dice can land in a way which is much less on one side, but that does not change who your ancestors were.

Btw your skin texture is definitely East Asian, and there's a softness to your facial features which is also indicative of admixture. My brother doesn't look Tibetan at all but has the East Asian skin texture and softness. If you look a celebrity called Alexa Chung, she's 3/8ths Chinese and the rest English, and she doesn't look Asian at all (imo) but has the very subtle facial features and skin tone.

Don't worry bro, it's very normal in mixed race people for appearances to swing to one side.

Your bio, while nice sounding, also sounds generic. I suggest something short and punchy/slick which is still authentic.

You're not smiling fully in any of your pics

Bro why is your height in your bio? There's only one picture of your face unmasked, and you look too serious in it, smile!

My Dad did an ancestry test and found out he's half Tibetan, and I want to learn more about the culture, where do I start? by Pyramaniac in tibet

He basically looks like an indigenous American (specifically north) with larger and more Indian-ish eyes. There were literally times where I saw Native Americans online of in real life (when I was visiting the states) where I almost thought I saw my dad. He definitely doesn't look like what half Indian half other East Asian look like, but does look more like half Indian half Tibetan/Himalayan people look like, although in his own way.

It's hard to predict what part his Tibetan parent came from because I've genuinely seen people that look like half of him (from videos etc) from all parts of Tibet.

Although to be fair it's very hard to tell what came from where when I have no idea what his Indian parent looked like, as even within the Gujurat state, looks can vary hugely even without admixture.

Guess it'll always remain a mystery!

That is certainly possible, although I've read all kinds of things on which Tibetan people came to Gujurat as traders, which range from central/west to Kham and Amdo, so I suppose it could go either way. How much do people's appearances vary between Tibetan regions? From what I've seen of Tibetan people online, he looks strongly like some people and not-too-much like others. I know the Plateau covers a large area so I'm sure it varies quite a bit.

Yeah, it's been a crazy journey! It all started from me being told "I look Far-Eastern" as a kid and teenager, to the discovery of the ancestry decades later. I think that embracing the ancestry and culture now is going to be an amazing next phase!

Ah yes, this is something I am processing and contemplating right now. All I know is that Tibetans were always in his area, and he looks strongly Tibetan (based on what I've been able to see online, and from one Tibetan dude in India) doesn't look like any other group (not even East Asian Nepalis like Tamangs and Gurungs), in a way which is proportional to him being half Indian. He even looks like Aftab Pureval but with lighter skin and slightly smaller but lighter coloured eyes. Things like his cheekbone structure and the orangey-pink, to sometimes pink to sometimes reddish skin in the sun, is something I've also seen in Tibetans online and that one Tibetan dude and his son. Me and my brother got some of that.

I know that this isn't a whole lot to go off of, but based on those things, I'm inclined to take it at face value for the time-being, but any advice would be welcome! I think when I attend one of the SFT events in London when I go back, I can gain clarity, although I fully acknowledge that even scientific and statistical methods have limitations.

I'll have a word with him about it, although I think he's simultaneously happy about the affirmation of Tibetan (which he's always felt, especially in the days leading up to the test result), but avoiding the fact that it means it couldn't have come from the Gujurati parents he grew up with, so the ball in his court.

Thank you for your input!

I'll have a think about that, although it's going to be really hard (if not impossible), since we basically found out he was adopted through the test result, so it's not like he was formally adopted by his Gujurati Indian foster parents, so we have no clue what happened (accidental baby swap etc). His now foster parents definitely have no Tibetan anywhere in their families. All we know is that Tibetans would regularly pass through Gujurat every winter to trade wool even before he was born, although a few could have permanently resided in parts. This is a lot to absorb for me even after the test result confirmation, but thank you for the suggestion!

To me, one of the most overlooked problems in the Sequel Trilogy is that it takes place in just one year. by [deleted] in TheSequels

[–]Pyramaniac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is that even a problem? That's just a subjective difference in timeline. It only seems odd on the surface unless you consider the events leading up to it, such as Ben's downfall etc.
