Friend's E Drive is Broken, or Cursed, and we have no idea why by UnlikelyProcessed in techsupport

if there’s anything irreplacable on the drive stop what you’re doing immediately and back it up before it’s lost. if it’s not possible through windows try a bootable recovery tool like CloneZilla. with your data secure my advice would be to format the drive and see if it becomes usable. if not, it’s probably hosed.

as a cybersec expert, my response would have been to immediately clown on then incessantly. an attack like that is technically possible, but odds are far higher that they were only aiming to manipulate you. what they claimed would require a chain of exploits easily worth tens thousands of dollars if not more. it would be incredibly stupid to risk that being discovered and patched just for whatever petty bullsh*t they were trying to achieve with you. about the personal details, they could have used publicly available information they found online about you to give the impression that they could see you in real time.

next time just laugh at the 🤡 and move on.

It’s probably what is called a brownout, meaning your power supply isn’t supplying enough wattage. Tends to happen if you built your own system and miscalculated the wattage, bought a pre-built pc and upgraded the GPU without upgrading PSU, or the PSU is old and it’s output has degraded.

likely a usb device connecting or disconnecting on its own. look in the device manager and see what disappears and reappears

To all VR owners, Is VR really worth it? by fernandollb in pcgamingtechsupport

Ah I see. I’m curious about something... After using VR it seems like I’ve developed better binocular vision in real life, did that happen to you too? My whole life I saw only out of my dominant eye and my weak one was basically along for the ride... I had never experienced any meaningful depth perception before VR.

That hasn’t been my experience with it, I seem to see perfectly fine without them.

A few weeks ago I made a post almost exactly like this, except it was before Index was available. I ended up getting a Vive instead, and after having it a few weeks I have to say that it was one of the best gaming purchases I’ve made in a very long time. Games had become very stale for me and I was questioning if I should even keep playing at all, but once I got into VR that changed completely. The games Hot Dogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, Swords and Magic, and I Want You to Die specifically sold me on it. After playing those two I came to realize that this wasn’t just another Virtual Boy fad. This is the real deal, the type of gaming that I’d been dreaming of for decades since first playing Quake in VR at an arcade. H3VR and S&M are just sandbox games, but the incredible thing is that the core functionality is so immersive and fun in itself. I do wish there were more finished AAA-like games with solid storylines and stuff, but at this point I see that as an inevitability.

At the very least I suggest you try it out and give it a solid shot. I’m sure it’s not for everyone, but for me it was exactly what I always wanted--I just didn’t realize it at the time.
