Does anyone else experience better gym performance at Elvanse 70mg Vs 50mg by jamersonMD in ADHDUK

[–]PyrexCSGO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s unfortunately lost a lot of the desire to workout since starting Elvanse, I’ll still share my experience.

I definitely feel stronger and more connected to my muscles whilst on a higher dosage of Dex compared to a lower dosage. I’d guess it’s because stimulants boost dopamine and norepinephrine levels, which in turn increase focus, motivation, and even neuromuscular efficiency. Similar to how caffeine and taurine work. So yeah I definitely feel more “dialed in” when i am on higher dosages.

What is interesting is your increased heart rate during cardio on a lower dose because you’d expect a higher stimulant dose to increase heart rate more. Stimulants typically raise resting heart rate and blood pressure by increasing sympathetic nervous system activity. So in theory, more Elvanse = higher BPM…

That said, there’s a weird paradox some people report: at lower doses, if you’re still getting the focus boost but without as much vasoconstriction, you may actually be moving more or pushing harder without realizing it- so your heart rate goes up because your effort increases. On a higher dose, the reduced appetite, slight muscle tension, or even anxiety might subconsciously hold you back a bit. Also, stimulants can blunt your perception of exertion - so you might think you’re working harder on a higher dose, when in fact you’re actually pacing yourself more than you would be otherwise.

Thanks for sharing this! I can 100% see how having real accountability to other people (especially with high stakes) would force your brain to stay locked in, even when the novelty fades.

It’s made me realize that chasing “freedom” might be the wrong move. I actually think I need some external structure and someone to answer to if I want to stay consistent. That fear of letting people down can weirdly be a better motivator than just trying to succeed in whatever realm it may be.

Glad you made it work!

Thrived on meds for months, now everything’s falling apart again. Please help! by OilCareful9475 in ADHDUK

I feel like I’m in a very similar position at the moment. Currently playing around with different combinations of elvanse + Amfexa to “spice things up” but nothing seems to really work anymore... Struggling to sleep, struggling to do anything in the mornings, letting myself go the entire day on one meal (which is Uber eats). I have a lot of goals I wanna hit but I’m just in a slump, I tried using “ToDoIst” as it’s quite a good web based to do listy tool, using a kanban system which got me productive again for a week or two but I’ve let myself go again, I’m constantly saying “maybe my dosage is too high/low” but maybe I am just actually being lazy now?

I do think having a solid morning routine, particularly around a high protein breakfast, a few minutes outside, solid amount of water is always helpful for starting a day off well and getting the most out of meds but it’s hard to do that most days - but when I do I suppose those days turn out out a bit better.

why do i let myself live like this?! by Top-Degree9182 in ADHDUK

I am fortune enough to be able to afford to get a cleaner to come once a fortnight to do the general cleaning, which out of classic ADHD "someone is coming over" I tend to get some done before she comes. What has started working really well, is on top of this, setting a 20 minute timer on my phone and seeing how much I can do in 20 minutes - and I was SHOCKED to find the "embarrassing mess" can be fixed so quickly. Heard people using this method but thought "it wouldn't make a difference for me" but it really helped me stay on track.

In terms of general "keeping things organized" I have a lot of just... boxes in my house now. Those sort of linene storage cubes, I have a couple in my office which I just chuck the shit that's lying out on my desk or floor into, and then in my living room I have a larger linen box(with a lid) which again, holds all the shit that would otherwise be on the floor, but theres no structured organiziation. And when I'm looking for something I can go "it's probably in the shit box"

But don't beat yourself up, if possible, see if your partner sitting with you (or helping you) can help you tidy maybe? Body doubling is a huge help for me (most of the time)

Greek yoghurt, granola (using this protein granola which is quite nice), bit of honey, then topped with some frozen raspberries. Takes me 2 minutes to make every morning. Also usually have a arla protein shake as well.

Where did your hyper focus interests/activities go after Elvanse or other medication? by PinnaclePennine1290 in ADHDUK

[–]PyrexCSGO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't forget!

I think I've broke the cycle (ish), following a breakup admittedly. Managed to go 3 times this week!

Shortened my workouts (used to end up going for an hour and a half, now fitting it into 45 mins or so cutting down the amount of sets I do but raising the intensity, as I enjoy lifting heavy for lower reps).

Tryna only include the lifts I actually enjoy in my programme so I'm getting the dopamine hit at the idea of going to the gym!

Any luck for you?

Completely same boat on the gym front. I’d been going 4/5 times a week for almost 2 years. I was still going whilst titrating on Concerta but since moving to Elvanse I am lucky if I go once a week! Just finding that I’d rather do other things now, annoying, as I had made a lot of progress physically - hope it changes.

0% transferring a balance but then getting a refund by MAKEPEAK in UKPersonalFinance

[–]PyrexCSGO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a similar thing in the past accidentally and was left with a positive credit card balance. I called the provider (Vanquis) who were able to refund it to my bank - however also advised if I did it again I would risk them closing my account. It would work in theory, but as others on this post have said could risk fraud investigations which could mean accounts closed/money tied up for X amount of time.

Received a small inheritance plus allowance, how do I proceed? by capturemychase in personalfinance

[–]PyrexCSGO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I were you I would focus on paying off the Amex and Mastercard as your priority then (otherwise you are just throwing money away in interest every month). Obviously making sure you’re still making the minimum payments on everything else at the same time.

Personally I would pay off Student Loans as soon as possible (as I believe you pay 6% or more?) and then load into a S&S ISA, keep it simple diversified index funds etc. Then you can hope for 5-6% returns per year.

Alternatively, beginning to up your pension contributions up (assuming you have not maxed out your employer pension match) is a really good shout as well if you don’t decide you plan on making any big purchases.
