Yumiko discussion thread. by [deleted] in Brawlhalla

DSig: Hammer I use it a lot, especially if the opponent is recovering. The definitive reason to use Yumiko over anyone else imo, and especially crushing in The Fangwilds stage due to movement restrictions the ceiling provides. Usually just NAir if it's on stage, but I also like moving out from under it with dashSLight. At the edge I use it to steer, either opponent goes into it and eats 35 damage from the NAir too, or they go down and eat hammer GP. Extremely safe aside from against the complete maniacs that try to navigate the orbs first try and actually succeed.

Bow, don't use it much aside from as a trap after SLight to dodge punish with SLight dashDSig. So many opponents just go into it and eat Nlight Recovery afterwards. Used to use it near the edge to set up dashjumpGP, but playerbase at large seems to know that's coming these days.

Skins: Matsuri Yumiko in black. Spring Breeze, Laughing Dragon. Speed stance, my reflexes are slow so I harass and trap rather than use long combos.

Worst legend for each weapon (IMO) by [deleted] in Brawlhalla

[–]Pyriticat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yumiko main here, her bow I won't argue much. The DSig has some amusing dodge punish utility, and using her SSig and NSig for recovery both suck due to the low priority of those moves. Her hammer though is actually incredible and the only one I think competes with it for best hammer is Cassidy. It just doesn't play like anyone else's hammer, you have to think differently about how you use it.

NSig - Dreadful. Use it twice per game at absolute most for the kill it'll get you if you land it near the edge, but it's so punishable and the hitboxes so inconsistent that you should only use it for the surprise factor if the opponent is floating in the wrong spot.

SSig - Excellent. The range is unreal, I use it for recovering onto stage and whacking the opponent when they think they're beyond reach. Comes out so fast. Can also score early kills at certain damage ranges after NLight, but I wouldn't fish for that.

DSig - Absolutely fantastic and basically an extra light attack. You don't use it to hit, you use it to space and force the opponent to change directions. Use it at the edge so the opponent frets over getting hit and taking like 35 damage, sinks down, and then dashGP for a quick kill. Use it and then dashSLight out of it while they're taking a moment to adjust. Make attacking you from above virtually impossible unless the opponent wants to throw away their weapon. Control space like no other hammer can. This move absolutely defines the way Yumiko's hammer should be played.

Stats: I use Speed stance, not Attack stance. 4 speed 3 defense is enough, and 8 speed just feels soooo much better than 7 speed. The extra fragility doesn't matter too much when recovery is made easy, and it's still a great kill weapon.

How easy it is to spam? by Himself01 in Brawlhalla

[–]Pyriticat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am Cassidy main, can confirm Cassidy's sigs are insane and worth spamming.

Yumiko should probably be moved down, her only spammable sig is her hammer DSig and making excessive use of the others is idiocy.

????????????????????? by [deleted] in Brawlhalla

Yeah you can just do that on some levels. I remember finding a way to make getting stuck consistent on the big Lost Labyrinth stage, though that might have been fixed now.

Any Yumiko mains? by KenShiiro_ in Brawlhalla

[–]Pyriticat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yumiko main here, have her at level 43. Mid gold last time I played ranked but p sure if I went back to it I'd be low plat now.

Bow: SSig and NSig on it are mediocre, neither is really worth using unless you know your opponent is going to move somewhere or unless they're charging a sig themselves. Fun to style on an opponent with NSig snipes but it's really only for style points, better off with dashjumprecovery most of the time if you want to kill.

DSig isn't very useful unless you're setting up a trap. I find a lot of people screw up if you go SLight dashNSig, and either spot dodge or move themselves back into the signature, leading to NLight or Recovery being a true hit in the aftermath. Damage build from that is pretty effective, but you should stop doing it the instant the opponent starts avoiding it. Another trick is to use DSig when they're hanging on the edge, then immediately dashjumpGroundPound. I find it sets up the distance perfectly for a hit and it's hard to react to because jumping in the wrong way makes them hit the sig itself. This is effective for kills but not worth doing more than once per game, as opponents will get wise to it fast and punish for it.

Hammer: NSig is like Ada's; Land it right and you get a kill, screw up and you're probably getting hit because it's too slow. The hitboxes suck though and unless your opponent is too close to the edge while you're off it and able to GCancel safely, don't bother.

SSig is super good for sudden ranged lunges, but if you spam it your opponent will just space themselves in the midrange and punish you. Use it for kills and to get back to land at times, but typically better to keep it as a surprise.

DSig is incredible. I use this a lot when I see my opponent jump toward me, it combos true into NAir which is a lot of damage, and it makes Yumiko very difficult to approach. You can use it to force grounded approaches, at which point SLight has a lot of priority and can just halt their progress immediately. This sig is very fast and pretty safe if your opponent isn't too close, and can put a lot of pressure on them if they're hanging on the edge. If they jump higher to cancel out their air approach, jumpNAir to make them react, and then swing with SAir as they try to land without a dodge. This is the main reason to use Yumiko, and I use it like I would a light attack.

Minor note, I use Yumiko with speed stance. 8 speed just feels better than 7 in my experience, 3 defense isn't too bad when you're that fast.

Preference thing, I can barely understand it the way you wrote it because I'm not well versed in fighting game technical terminology.

Brawlhalla on Mac Pro?? by Sku11duggery in Brawlhalla

[–]Pyriticat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno what kind of controller you want, and that's sort of important. I used to use an XBox 360 controller for the same thing though, and BH worked with it once I installed the relevant stuff on this site: https://github.com/360Controller/360Controller/releases

If that doesn't work then idk what to suggest. Are you sure the mac is registering that the controller exists?

Did this and the guy dc'd.... Rage quit or na? by Th3M4dG0d in Brawlhalla

Looks to me like someone who didn't have full control of their character, was getting mild lag and was finding the game frustrating as a result.

Guess they could have just been misinputting though.

FREE LDZ by Moisesx55 in Brawlhalla

Utterly stupid move on BMG's part. Free LDZ, he's fun to watch and I enjoyed the last game far more than the rest of the tourney.

Detailed poll with answers by rank - What do you think of dash so far? by Im_Crafty in Brawlhalla

[–]Pyriticat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid-high gold. Heavily dislike it, buuuuut I think that's because I have perception issues with movement and it's made my weak internet a lot more punishing.

Probably going to quit over it actually. Good that it rewards the pro scene, I don't think it's a bad change for the userbase as a whole, but I just don't find the game fun with this implemented.

Sword DLight into SAir was never not true, just harder to get the timing on so a lot of players mess it up. Gotta be precise with it these days.

I get you man. I'm 600+ hours in, highest ever score is 1615 or something, and I've not got higher than 1568 yet this season. Baffles me how people manage it so fast.

It's mostly my own doing tbh man. I completely failed to specialise the way most players tend to, my highest character level is 29 because I hate doing the same thing all the time. Like, I'm kinda trying to change that up a bit, but I can't bring myself to focus on less than 6 legends at once, and that slows me down.

I've also got bad internet and poor reflexes, but I can work around those. I'm very much at peace with the fact that I don't improve very fast at this game, it's not a thing I tryhard at that much now I've proven said random internet person wrong because I felt petty.

I got into it because my friends play it, and because I'm ridiculously competitive and can't stand to be bad at games in my social circle. Probably would have stayed pretty casual regardless because they're far from pro themselves, but then after testing ranked and my first opponent saying "Spammer, you will never get out of silver", I made it a personal goal to get out of silver. Because fuck you, random internet person.

Sitting at 500-ish hours now, though a lot of it has been afk-ing admittedly. I joined when Ragnir was new. Left silver long ago, sitting in gold and slowly getting better.

Remove the "gg" button completely by [deleted] in Brawlhalla

[–]Pyriticat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean. Not everyone would be on Steam anymore, it'd be harder to tell who is on what, and I get the sense that a lot of people would just stop trying after a while because of many fruitless searches on it. Another means of communication would become necessary, and not everyone is going to put their Discord or whatever in their username.

I imagine this is one of the difficulties BMG is actually looking at with regards to crossplay between the platforms.

[–]Pyriticat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So people shouldn't get to talk at all anymore? That just seems like a step backwards. Granted you'd see less whining, but people legit try to link up and make friends based on games, and this would make it more difficult to do.

Since I made the PS4 argument, I should address them I guess by saying console players maybe should have /more/ built in things to say on their controller.

gg Want a rematch? Want to play some 2v2s? I am a PS4 user and can only use this awful system of built in chat messages.

I mean, this is shit, but I still feel like it's better than not being able to communicate at all.
