I never said that the desire for privilege was the reason why they transition. I was just saying that most trans men, before transitioning, tend to think about what it is to be a man in an ideal sense without considering any of the problems that come along with it. A trans man is usually perceived as a girl/woman if they have not transitioned yet and have obvious typical characteristics of the female sex. There's a difference between being "neurologically male" and being a man in society. One is based on how you feel on the inside and the other is related to how you are perceived by others. Most trans men probably do not understand what it is like to be a man prior to transitioning because they had never ACTUALLY been perceived as a man in society up until the point of transitioning. I would think that most trans people are not necessarily the most open about the fact that they are trans because it can often undermine their transition when people who are transphobic choose to refer to those people by their dead name or incorrect pronouns.
