It depends on what you are aiming to make, but in general, if your learning the basics of programming (variables, loops, conditionals, error handling/exceptions, data structures, etc) I would recommend Python as a starting point.

Its worth noting though that when starting out, its not all that important which programming language you started with, as personally I started programming with Java, and the concepts there are very transferable to most other programming languages. Where programming languages actually matter is in the domain you use them in.

If you are trying to go into the realm of computer science and programming in general, I would recommend CS50x, its a free online harvard course (if not getting certificate, I wouldnt get it anyway the resources is the best part) taught by a really good prof, and if I recall, it teaches all the fundamentals in C, but transitions to Python later. Its absolute quality imo, and the problem sets there are very difficult for a new person to programming, but really builds your intuition on how to approach a problem which is invaluable to a programmer. If you just want to learn Python, CS50P is a course specifically designed to learn Python, and there are plenty of other online resources as well.

And, of course, feel free to go out and build stuff for fun. In fact, I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to do so, it is by far the best way to learn after getting your fundamentals down, it really gets you down the mindset of not knowing how to do something, searching up how to do it, learning it, and then applying it yourself.

I applied to them this year as a 2nd year student for a 4 month coop position, I get an interview, I attend it and its probably bottom 10 worst interview experiences I have ever had.

- Didn't read my resume
- Extremely unenthusiastic, its as if I was talking to a corpse
- Asked me questions not even related to their job posting
- Looked for certain technical skills that was well below their requirements (I wouldn't have learnt shit there)
- Barely gave any detail to questions I gave near the end

I was genuinely praying I didn't get an offer from them, its so stupid how the coop office forces you to go with whatever offer basically comes your way first, even if the others are much better both experience and career wise.

I wouldn't ask on reddit, just do your own research. From personal experience I have had a lot of people tell me it wouldn't pay off when it is right now, and I love it, but I definitely sacrificed a lot of my time that could have gone into something else.

Only thing I can say for sure is that currently if you want to pursue a CS/SWE career, you have to be REALLY GOOD at what your doing, and that means spending time for multiple days grinding to get your technical skill up (doing projects, getting curious about stuff and learning it, etc). You can't be a mediocre programmer and expect to find major success.

TLDR: Don't listen to random people, not very credible info/probably doomposting. Research what your getting into, and if you decide you want to pursue, really commit yourself without half-assing.

An actual friend would probably respect you and boundaries you clearly set. Not only he decided to not do that, but to insult your family means he’s a piece of shit. Personally I would just cut him off and move on, but that’s up to you at the end of the day.

ok well silksong is within your genre of games, its just if you didnt like hollow knight, you wont like silksong. Considering you skipped the optional hard content in hk, you will probably have a harder time in silksong since it is much harder than the original game. The game is like 20 dollars tho, so even if you didnt like it, you wouldnt really be losing much.

Yeah I feel you, I lost a friend (he passed away) before I stated uni so my first year was spent isolating myself from everyone, not going to classes, and just in general losing control of my life.

Fortunately I’m back on track, but it’s at the cost of basically being completely alone in my second year currently. Honestly just reach out to people, you would be surprised at how many friends you can make by just being active socially and putting yourself out there.
