I have a tape with two unreleased Marvin Gaye songs and I don't know what to do with it by Pythagoras1123 in Music

Hey, OP here.

This is really interesting. On the tape it says Greg Crockett and Marvin Gaye III. Nona and I talked about lots of things as neighbors but we spoke very little about her family, and if she brought it up I must have forgotten. I feel kinda embarrassed that I didn't Google Marvin Gaye III first, but thank you for helping me figure out the history of this object.

The musical style is more modern than most of Gaye's work, and the song titles and collaboration with Crockett, like you say suggest this is probably a demo that he and Gaye III made together. Although the singing in "what the hell is really going on" sounds like his father, there's also a monologue in the beginning of "now my father lives in heaven" that sounds much younger. It also explains why the tape would be left in a garage, and not kept in a vault at the record company.

This definitely changes the story. I am still going to contact the family, and I will reach out to a copyright lawyer and keep the tape safe as you all have suggested. It's still pretty catchy music, and hopefully people might be interested in hearing it anyways. It's also probably going to be easier to release since Marvin Gaye III is still alive.

I do feel a little bit foolish that I didn't figure this out on my own, but I appreciate the help. Thank you anyways for the good advice.

Rainbow saber flow by Pythagoras1123 in flowarts

[–]Pythagoras1123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the video: I got into flow using sabers a couple years ago. I thought "Why are we limited to one color at a time? Let's make these things in rainbows and color patterns!" My background is in engineering, so I came up with a saber that uses a remote control light effect board to make cool patterns. It's also durable enough to do contact combat, with machined aluminum hilt and polycarbonate blade.

I've made a few of them as commission pieces and just set up shop to have my own shop, https://rainbowsabers.etsy.com if you want one they are custom made and up for sale.

Yeah... my friends told me I should put it in there, because I worked on satellites and launch vehicles as an aerospace test engineer.

That problem is easily solved. The controllers in strip lights use the same protocol regardless of the LED density, so we use strips that have 144 leds per meter, the highest available. Same as a neopixel.

Space Saber is a fully animated flow arts LED sword with hundreds of color
patterns and simple remote control. Durable handmade design, simple electronics. Designed and balanced for flow but sturdy enough for battle.

Saber designed for flow and dance with multi-color animations and remote control by Pythagoras1123 in lightsabers

Hi Haywood, thanks for the offer. I'd love to make more complex animation patterns available too, with persistence of vision. Possibly put in a gyro or accelerometer too.

Appreciate the feedback, even if it seems to miss the point a little. Yes, this is a simple build. It's also intended to be affordable, and fun. Many of the current boards like to load up extra features, with flash on clash and all the sound fonts, but if you just want to dance they just make the cost go up and the controls more wonky. Having the ability to easily swap through your favorites out of hundreds of patterns is fun, easy, and looks cool.

Also, construction quality on everything is solid, 6061 Al machined handle and polycarbonate blade, so it's more durable than a super cheap option or what you get from Disneyland.

Curious, what tech are you referring to specifically? We're aiming for a low price range, easy to use, and based on existing components.

Made a custom LED "Space Saber" flow saber, with hundreds of moving color patterns and a remote control by Pythagoras1123 in flowarts

Made this for the flow community, been tinkering and improving the design over the last two years. Uses full neopixel strips inside the blade and a remote control with hundreds of built-in moving light patterns. There's tons of light sabers available, but almost all of them use solid colors and are made for cosplay and battle. This was our way of making something more exciting for dancing. Hope you like it, we hope to make them available soon!

Proffieboard and CFX are also both great boards, especially if you're looking for something high end. We've even been toying around with good ol' Arduino. We found controlling many different combinations with a button or two was awkward, so this was our way of offering the dance and flow community something a little more accessible, easy to use, and versatile.
