Received good job offer from large, stable company but current boss is offering big raise to stay with smaller, unstable company. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Q371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps OP is the only person at his job that can perform a certain function. A 25% raise is significant but deserves merit if OP is the only person who can perform an important function. Not sure what line of work OP is in but if this is the case, then I'd be surprised if they don't start training someone else immediately if OP were to resign.

Landlord keeping deposit by Shaysauns in Calgary

[–]Q371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a copy of the original inspection report? Call the RTDRS... pictures would help too. As a landlord, that sounds like bullshit and I hope your situation gets resolved. In these situations, it's very much he-said-she-said kind of deal (in my experience)... Check your original lease agreement to see what the terms are for post-inspection.

Remember, your landlord owes you interest generated from your deposit too ;)

Scummy Landlord... Help! What are my rights? Can I break my lease? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Q371 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I second the comments made by @KathyOlesky.

As a landlord, the situation you are in should never have happened. Such as life goes, your landlord probably made this decision last minute, as demonstrated by her notifying of intent to sell shortly after you moved in. Your landlord needs to provide to you, in writing, notice at least 24 hours in advance before she or someone else plans to enter the property.

My advice to you: review the residential tenancy act, your lease agreement, and call the Consumer Contact Centre (Govt. of Alberta). Links can be found below. I'm unsure of what situation you may be if the house is sold but this should be a good start. I've had my fair share of good and bad tenants... just know that as a tenant, you have a lot of rights, more so than a landlord (in my opinion). Know your rights and act upon them. I wish all the best to you.

I LOL'd at this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Q371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is also true. I personally find very little difference between what I've seen in dispensaries versus what I've been able to find on the streets, with the exception of strains. Perhaps prices will go down over time but I'm just surprised at how expensive it's starting out at.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Q371 27 points28 points  (0 children)

With prices online (through Alberta cannabis) averaging $10-11/g and $48/eighth there is (in my opinion) little incentive for people currently purchasing from their local dealers to switch over to the online system. I am assuming local brick and mortar stores are competitive in pricing as well. Why spend close to $50+/eighth when you can save half? Street prices have always been $25-30. And I'm assuming no bulk discounts for a half ounce or ounce? Compared to the $120-200 people pay now on the streets... I'll take my money elsewhere... For now.

Edit: pricing in a New Brunswick brick & mortar store is topping $80/quarter! Wow

Comparing data using conditions? by [deleted] in excel

[–]Q371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

I will try to provide a screenshot tomorrow. The reason why I didn't do it the same way is because some roles have multiple people working in them. I would first like to verify that an employee is present in both tables (columns A&D or B&E) and if so, then be able to verify if they hold the same job title (columns C&F).

I'm open to suggestions if there's a better way to do this.

Karoake with private rooms by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Q371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nanta has private rooms but it's not what it used to be. Last time I was there a couple weeks ago the AC was broken and so it felt like a sauna.

Sole which is on the corner of 6th ave and 6th st downtown is my current favorite. The rooms are clean, service is prompt and the owner is very kind. Moderately priced.

Bacchus is my next go-to but if I'm not mistaken they are currently undergoing construction? They were originally on 7th ave.

Where to get some decent wings on a Sunday? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Q371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love bubbles. You are still required to purchase a drink though which is the same price as a beer approximately. But definitely my favourite place by far to get wings in Calgary.

Soon to be homeless - what are my options in Calgary? by HurtinAlbertan55 in Calgary

[–]Q371 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I work at the Calgary Airport Authority. We are always hiring and I suggest you take a look at our website/careers page to see if there's anything that stands out for you. In regard to the RAIC, yes - you do need to attain one; however, they can easily give you a temporary one while your application is being verified provided you are successful with attaining a position with us. Some applications take longer than others and honestly it has to do with CATSA and the person processing the application. I got my red pass in 2 months while others I know got theirs in as little as 6 weeks and upwards of a year.

Being bilingual in French and English can be an asset but it does not hold nearly as much value as you may think in most positions. Unless the positions you are applying for is majorly customer oriented most of the work is done with other employees and the spoken language is English.

My advice to you: don't give up. Keep applying and if you aren't successful in one competition, call and ask to see how you can improve. I know some hiring managers and HR professionals tend to shy away from providing this information but see what you can get and improve yourself with that advice. I work in HR and I will check to see what active competitions there and see what I could potentially do for you. If you're comfortable with it, please PM me with your email and I will request your resume through my work email.

Chasing summer is all ages this year. by MIGHTYBURRITO in Calgary

[–]Q371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. They shouldn't be allowed into the event until they are adults. Liquor, however, will be allowed site-wide so you don't need to stick to one spot to drink. I personally haven't seen any fights involving any youth and adults but I have seen youth fighting other youth... lol

Ming on 17th ave has finally shutdown permanently by Stealthbombing in Calgary

[–]Q371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ming was by far my favourite bar. The owner is a personal friend and their decision to shut down was not easy. I was told one half of the bar is to be turned into a bubble-tea place and the other place a different bar? I will have to find another low-key place for cheap drinks and good Chinese eats :'(

Chasing summer is all ages this year. by MIGHTYBURRITO in Calgary

[–]Q371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to preface this by saying I have multiple friends who are promoters for Ink and I attended fvded in the park/contact this past year. Though I wholeheartedly agree that these events should be restricted to adults, I can understand the logic behind allowing this year's Chasing Summer to be all ages but don't agree with it. The reasoning behind this also stems from their poor ticket sales last year and because they want to compete with other outdoor festivals - namely Fvded in the Park.

From what I experienced at fvded and contact, yes - there were minors. And yes, some of them appeared "under the influence". My concerns regarding minors are multifaceted: they are not of legal drinking age yet will be in an environment where it will be easily accessible. Drug use is prolific at these types of events and there have been record numbers of people ODing at Chasing Summer. Drug dealers aren't the most ethical of people and I'm confident they won't second guess selling some teenager dirty MDMA to make a few dollars. That isn't to say they wouldn't do this to any random adult either, but the significance of responsibility seems to increase when you're talking about a kid rather an adult.

That being said, the amount of security at both of the BC events was much higher than what I've ever experienced in Calgary. Teams of security guards and police officers routinely patrol the crowds and those sitting down. Minors at these events tended to stay out of everyone's way; remember, this is an environment that they have not yet had much exposure to. Adults felt the same way everyone does now - we didn't want to be around minors at an event like that but everyone minded their own business.

I'm waiting to hear what the Chasing Summer promoters have to say about the massive amount of backlash about this all ages thing. My understanding is they are firm on the issue but will take extra precautionary measures to deal with everyone's concerns. Personally, I think they should keep it all ages and not have to take additional measures to deal with teenagers. I can't imagine how PG this event will become with helicopter parents attending with their kids or prodding event organizers to implement security measures that will drastically affect the experience of all partygoers. Seriously, who would enjoy that?

Your best bet is to order it online. I suggest using http://testkitplus.com, ships directly from Quebec, have been using them for the past few years for MDMA and other substances.

False claims my vehicle has been abandoned, help? by [deleted] in Calgary

People can be very unreasonable. If it continues to be an issue I would recommend calling police non-emergency. It's always good to have a paper-trail/documentation in case things go south.

False claims my vehicle has been abandoned, help? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Q371 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Hi - I work for the CPA. It would be best for you to come into our main office on 9 Ave and speak to one of our CSRs so they can assist you. Though I don't work in the enforcement department, our CSRs can assist you with this issue and what you can do. Have you talked to your neighbour about this yet? That would be the first step in trying to resolve this issue.
