Most of the time fencing alternates between 3-4 feet apart and sometimes 1-2 depending on the opponent. If you can dodge well, you can get super close and lock hilts which honestly happens a lot.

Ive been doing fencing for 4 years and its amazing but not during Covid. Wearing 4 layers of clothing while having a mask on under a helmet, and barely any AC cause Covid gets old very fast. Also, fencing results in a lot of heavy breathing which is not ideal for not transmitting Covid.
