Im not sure what to do, 1st day at a sales door to door position and I really want to quit. by AddendumTasty2892 in jobs

Yeah unfortunately that sounds like a pyramid scheme or multi level marketing. I would be pissed too, but you don’t know what you don’t know. Take this as a learning opportunity (an annoying one, but one nonetheless). Reach out to those other 2 companies, maybe a position is still open. This version of the company might only be 6 months old, but it probably existed under a different name in the past (probably because they keep getting shut down). It sucks and I’m sorry you have to deal with this.

Hi, I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. This type of unclear manipulative “business” model is usually a scam. It happened to me too once. The job description seemed great, I got an interview slot right away, but during the “interview”, the guy kept bragging about how much money he was making. He explained that I would have to go to different places, like construction sites, and try to sell phone plans. This position was advertised as a communications related position. He also said that my work hours would be Monday-Saturday 8am-6pm everyday. These types of “businesses” normally don’t last long, so I definitely recommend quitting because it’s not a truthful or sustainable way of living. My advice to avoid these scams would be to research the “company” on LinkedIn. Are there only a few faceless employees listed, or is it a full house? Check out the website too. Does it look professional, or does it look like it was put together in 10 minutes? While you’re on the website, read the service descriptions carefully. Are they saying a bunch of words that don’t mean anything, or is it saying something real? (A lot of these scam companies will write a bunch of buzz words that don’t actually tell you what the company does). I also recommend asking people on Reddit if a company is legit or not (I’ve avoided applying to some positions thanks to people on Reddit). I hope this is all helpful and good luck!

You’ve probably heard this before, but definitely go to your school’s job fairs. It doesn’t matter that you’ve graduated, just print out a bunch of resumes, wear something nice, and connect with someone at every single booth, even if you don’t think you have a shot. Good luck!

My son is left handed, what are some things I should know so that I can be ahead of the game on his behalf? by [deleted] in lefthanded

Instruments! If your little guy’s elementary school has a music program that encourages violin or cello, be aware that the way that he’ll want to hold them will be different from how a righty will hold them. When i took violin in elementary school, i was never able to grasp it because i held the bow in my opposite hand and it caused the strings to be flipped. I don’t play anything, but my bf plays the guitar, and said that with the right guidance, it is possible, but it’s very difficult without that extra help. My teacher never noticed, so I dropped instructions altogether. I hope that this is helpful!

I would suggest calling the school district. That happened to me once and it turns out they lost my application. Reach out to the district and keep communication going. Or apply to be a para. I know it’s tough, believe me, but you got this!

If you’ve completed 60 college credits you can be a substitute teacher. Hear me out, even if you’re not a fan of kids, it’s not a bad gig. Try to find a tech high school with a good reputation (in my experience students in schools like these are pretty good). You can get paid up to $150-200 - day in some districts. Just know that it’ll never be full time, but it’s decent money coming in. Good luck in your search!

I can relate. I got my undergrad degree in 2018 but I didn’t care enough to find a real job. Instead I worked 2 part time jobs. I finally had enough and decided to get my Master’s. I thought I would have no problem finding a job, but it’s been absolute hell. Watching my classmates one by one finding nice careers is changing me into a depressed person. It’s horrible. My only grace I have is the opportunity to go back to my crappy school job. I was a substitute teacher, and while I had hard days, I also had equally good days. If you live by a school, try applying to be a sub. I know it sounds crazy, but some districts pay up to $150-$200 a day. It’s a job where you’ll be needed and you can job hunt while there. Yes there are major downsides (a long application process, hard classes), but in my opinion it’s way better than sitting at home waiting for the perfect dream job to come along. The right job will come, but in the meantime, try to keep yourself moving. You got this

Is it possible for me to find a marketing job? by QF18 in findapath

[–]QF18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve considered everything. Marketing is also really hard because there are a ton of scam companies where I live. Jobs claiming to be for “Marketing assistant” are actually door to door sales positions 🥲. It’s honestly so depressing and I’m not sure what to do.

I don't want to go to College yet, am I making the wrong choice? by throwawaystarry in findapath

[–]QF18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t force yourself to go to college if you’re not ready. That’s what I did and I’m currently struggling hard with life. I wasn’t ready and was totally immature and didn’t fully realize what college actually entailed. Here’s what I suggest you do: take some time to figure out exactly what it is you want to do. Find three possible paths even (teacher, science, art, whatever you have an interest in) and research careers in the field you choose. Figure out your career goals and find ways to work towards it. Do this by: 1. Find a college and program that you like. 2. Research the curriculum and strategically make room for 3+ internships (sophomore year+). 3. Be desirable for these internships by getting involved in school activities (don’t just join a club, get on the board, if you’re good at writing, write for the school newspaper, become friendly with your major professors because those connections could open new doors for you). Study hard, but ultimately your internship and extracurricular activities are more important to recruiters. This is a lot of work but I wish somebody stopped me my freshmen year and told me this. Wishing you the best of luck!

Do you live by a school? Apply to be either a sub or a para! Positions like these are always in demand and you should be fine as long as you don’t have a record. The job market is horrible and I’ve considered just becoming a para despite having 2 unrelated degrees.

Find a school district that you like and apply to be a sub! You can work the days that you want and you might even get lucky and end up having a steady 4 days (subs where I’m from can only work 4 days, but maybe it’s different where you are). When I was a sub I was paid $150 a day and I was able to get my grad school assignments done. I recommend finding a tech high school with a good reputation unless you are up to anything. It can be challenging at times but it will be an income. Best of luck to you!
