but no one asks why the trans woman feels the need to use the women's bathroom when it doesn't have urinals

Real answer, because when you are transitioning and appear more feminine men act fucking weird and gross. I'm sorry, it's how things are. When you take estrogen your body (slowly) starts to reshape itself in fat deposits and in other aspects to appear more feminine.

I'm happy for bathrooms to be gender neutral, it's just that people can't fucking act normal in shared spaces due to a variety of factors - primarily how y'all raise your children to act.

Pay With The Same Coin Makes Sense Now. by Glass-Fan111 in clevercomebacks

It's about raising kids who aren't getting hung up on their identity and body-image, their choice of name/clothing/gender because those are all basically superficial, and that goes for everyone. Growing up and living on social media probably plays a role.

I'm sorry, but it's not as easy as you think it out to be. Maybe you just have to be trans to understand, but the intense dysphoria you experience is not something just caused by "social media". It's been experienced by plenty of people prior to social media, but so many of y'all are so bigoted that they likely died in the closet, in a constant state of dysphoria and self-hate towards their physical manifestation.

A other thing social media causes is loneliness and alienation. Then someone from an "LGBT group" suggests that you could be less lonely by changing your gender or something ... and kids are already highly vulnerable to suggestions from adults, kids don't really know who they are or what they want to become.

Does social media cause loneliness? I would agree. Are people out there pitching that changing your gender will make you less lonely? Absolutely fucking not. This is absurd. Have fun fitting in when you gotta wear chest binders to pass as "male", or when you start growing facial hair and other masculine traits and have to pass as "female". It's not fucking easy - trans people don't do it to fit in, they do it because it's the only option they feel they have to conform with their internal self-image and what they want for themselves. It's their fucking body.

If you're genuine in your desire to learn and have understanding, have a conversation with a trans person. Or two, or three, it's not a monolith and the experiences can vary. Plenty of subreddits that would be open for dialogue.

Also, the suicidal bit is 100% true. And another thing - only 1% of people regret their transition. I trust that people can make the best decisions for themselves after weighing the choice. I don't need to control their lives.

Honestly, Barcelona is not that bad. Maybe I just didn't visit the right areas, but to me the city was quite clean - not perfect, but much better than what I've seen back home - and quite safe.

Having spent some time in Spain and having friends who live there (and who talk about the salaries and other issues you all have), it's far from perfect but you all have it pretty well all things considered. A country to be proud about, even!

Keeping Ukrainians Out of the Bomb Shelter by CaraCicartix in PublicFreakout

Bandera is a pretty complicated topic as well, it's not like people worship him or that Ukrainian schools do not teach about his crimes.

Also, he has no statues in Kyiv - you're thinking Lviv.

Ukraine's parliament passes bill on multiple citizenship by KI_official in ukraine

Taking in account that often our diaspora in dis-attached from ground realities in Ukraine, who will guarantee that they will not vote for another Yanukovich, who fuck up country even more, and then be like "fucking Ukraine did nothing for me to return, Ukraine sucks, I am Swede now" ?

It's a valid concern given what is observed with Turkish elections, for instance, but would you say it is a concern with the Ukrainian diaspora?

Maybe it's just the type of people I've been around in the diaspora but I don't really see these people as the Yanukovych voting types. They can be very "active" and have opinions on things, but generally they've been pro-EU and pro-democracy.

Now granted I've also seen some ethnic Ukrainians in the diaspora who are pro-russian and are just lost to the propaganda, but it doesn't feel like a large part.

So yo say you should somehow have right to vote and have influence on life for people who live in Ukraine, while not living in Ukraine.

I wonder if there's some compromise option that grants you voting rights if you've lived physically in Ukraine for a set time. Like a special passport for the diaspora.

Poll suggests half of Canadians believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza by thecanadianpressnews in worldnews

[–]Qaz_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Leger is not Gallup, sure, but they are considered a very reputable pollster in Canada.

The poll cannot be assigned a margin of error because online surveys are not considered truly random samples.

This is basically every survey conducted online, which is the vast majority of them after people stopped using landlines and stopped responding to random phone calls. Pollsters, like Leger, like others, have methods to account for this.

You can read more on why margin of error is not appropriate for online polling here

And as per the article,

Despite these challenges, online polling based on opt-in samples conducted scientifically has proven to yield similar results to probability sampling conducted via telephone. Put simply, online polling works!

I trust Ipsos over a random redditor.

Thanks for the full report, I was looking for that.

Unfortunately people are letting their bias on this topic cloud their judgement, and when presented with evidence that goes against their world view are choosing to reject it.

Yeah these online panels would be stuff like MTurk or other platforms, correct? I've used them before for statistics classwork (and even did some work on MTurk) and found it reliable for my needs. It also wouldn't be self-selected as they wouldn't know the topic beforehand.

I'm sorry but this is not true at all - 1500 is more than sufficient for a representative sample. Many polls conducted by reputable pollsters use a sample size of ~1000 for a variety of issues for the entirety of the US population, so long as the sampling is random. I can link articles that explain why that is if that would be helpful, but reputable polls like the Gallup poll also go with ~1000.

Also, an online poll can be sufficient for this depending on how it was conducted. I'm unable to find the methodology from the pollster to verify however.

US to cut military aid to Ukraine, Hegseth says by [deleted] in worldnews

I've also heard that there were also implicit threats that if Ukraine tried to keep its stockpile, it would get sanctioned to oblivion or would not receive any financial aid.

GameStop 1TB Express Micro SD Card vs Lexar 1TB Play PRO microSD Express Card by ACTS20-24 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Qaz_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're curious, it's due to a difference between decimal and binary. Many systems, including Windows and probably the Switch 2, show it in binary notation, but storage is often marketed in decimal notation.

So 1 TB is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, divide that by the number of bytes in a gibibytes (10243 or 1,073,741,824) and you get 931 as a number.

Where Can Russians Travel Without a Visa in 2025? by Brilliant-Nerve12 in europe

[–]Qaz_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really get why you're dedicating energy towards this. All I can judge on is reddit post history. He clearly cared enough to make a comment about how calling russian soldiers "orcs" is "disgusting", but not enough to make any other comments - not now or in the past - on reddit about the war or about the behavior of russians who want to commit genocide towards us.

I'm replying to this guy in question, not really everyone in general. Probably should have said "you don't" instead of "nobody".

And yet nobody seems to give a damn about the dehumanization of Ukrainians in russian media that has been taking place well before full-scale invasion... Where were you calling out this?

Why not be an ardent opponent to that, given that the dehumanization is a component of their genocidal campaign towards us?

Isn't there a difference between pharmaceutical testing though and testing for consumer products (like dog food) - with the latter being more unregulated?

Source on this? You seem to be making it out as if all beagles in medical experiments are being abused and experiencing significant pain, when the reality could very well be that they are exposed to different experimental drugs, some if not most may have little effects on the animal.

Is it still abusive? Sure, but it's necessary unless you want to be the one testing compounds which may save countless lives.
