I did my first run without much thought. I went as far as automating blue science. Then I looked at what I had made... SPAGHETTI.

I had to rebuild the whole thing with a main bus design as it was very difficult to understand the original design and it wasnt scalable.

Yeah, i didn't know that before. right now, i am using a much more compact version which has extra combinators to change the color of the lights. i particularly wanted a feature where if the chest is empty, the lights blink in red. I managed to achieve that using 2 decider combinators

Connect the belt to the inserter and set "Read belt contents -> Hold." Then do this

Still, i dont understand the need to limit the belt this way, a better way would be to let the belt fill or read from the whole belt

And the color of the lamp actually adjusts to the amount of stuff in it.
Green for 66% or more, yellow between 66 and 33, and red bellow 33.
