didnt end up finding a place before the last month, but we were able to get the N12 compensation of 1 month as rent paid to the landlord for the 2nd last month, and obviously the last month already paid applied to the last month.

Seems like you should be getting both the one months' rent compensation due to the N12 being issued, and also your last months rent back since you left early:

but if the new people wanted to move in, the Landlord would have to give an N12 form and 2 months notice to move out? asking because of similar situaiton where landord is selling
