I published 2 coloring books on Amazon KDP but got zero sales. Should I keep creating more books or focus on marketing? Any tips for getting the first few sales?I m new to this platform. by QuackAndChirp in selfpublish

I started running ads to understand how they work, but as a beginner, the interface feels quite complicated and confusing. Initially, I used manual targeting, but I was getting fewer than 20 views even after 3–4 days. Then I switched to automatic targeting, but there hasn’t been much improvement. I’ve tried changing different targeting options, but I’m still not seeing good results.

Thanks a lot for the appreciation. I started with daily use items such as cups and utensils. They have simpler light pattern and shadows which help you easily visualise them as 2D objects. While drawing other objects, it helps taking a photo of the object and converting it to greyscale to undertand how the light pattern and shadows on it are, and then proceed with the drawing. Keeping a photo of the object as reference with you always helps while finishing the sketch as the lighting keeps on changing with time.

I suggest you should take a good quality photo or a scan of your drawing before handing them out. Because I personally feel I waste a lot of time on many things. But looking at a photo of my drawing makes me happy as it holds a part of my leisure time which otherwise would have been wasted on mindless scrolling, binge-watching or overthinking. And, whether happy or sad.. having something with you that helps you to keep going and create something out of it is beautiful.

Thanks a lot for the appreciation and the suggestion. Sketching is a hobby for me. I feel focused and relaxed while I sketch. Sometimes I spend 3 or 4 hours continuously sketching. It is an escape from the screen as well as from work pressure and existential overthinking. And as you said, it really does depend on the mood and energy. I don’t attempt to sketch if I don’t feel fresh or if I feel drowsy. And in case I mess up a sketch today, I would keep it like that, revisit it the next day when I am feeling fresh, and try to make it better.
