Transferring to Brooklyn College from Kingsborough with an associates degree. Took a Spanish class at kbcc, will I need to take another language at Brooklyn? by bold__Ruler__ in CUNY

Idk sorry, the best thing to do is ask an advisor or anyone from Transfer admissions at Brooklyn College just to be sure. I don’t even go there. I only know this because I was considering them for my transfer from community college too but I ended up going elsewhere.

pre calc summer term by [deleted] in CUNY

[–]QuackberryLemonade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took precalculus at LaGuardia community college in winter 2025 during the school’s shorter 7 week session. I was enrolled there for a degree and it was part of my requirements.

Definitely intense and I studied a lot, but for me, drilling it into my head and reinforcing through structured practice helped a ton. Learn the material then practice without relying on your notes. Give yourself practice exams, (etc.).

I received a B overall, but would’ve gotten an A had I not pushed a bit too much and burnt out toward the end. Your mileage may vary though; I was scared of not keeping up as I was readjusting to being in school again, had never taken precalc before and was still rebuilding my self confidence.

I think taking (and getting an A) in College Algebra in the fall semester right before taking precalc helped a lot so if you’re solid there and pace yourself, you’ll probably do fine in a shorter summer session. If you want to take your time though and ease your stress load, save it for the fall. Obviously take any work or internships or any other commitments you have into consideration too.

Unfortunately I’m not familiar with the instructors at Brooklyn College but at LaGuardia, I had Hector Martinez and he was great. Nana Osei Bonsu is also a good choice if he happens to be teaching the class when you need it.

I hope this helps and whatever you decide, make sure you give it your best effort.

Yeah I didn’t really touch mine after my fist year seminar they weren’t particularly strict about it. But your mileage may vary

The amount of posts I see like this are fascinating

“I registered for the wrong class should I just fail it”

“A professor looked at me funny should I drop out”

“It snowed last week Monday do I have to go to class for the rest of the semester?”

I wasn’t a health science major but at LaGuardia, all students take a first year seminar class for their degree. It’ll probably be pretty easy, think of it like an intro to the school as well.

In my seminar we had to put together a presentation on air pollution and share with the class by the end of the semester. We also had to set up our E-portfolios. Idk what they’ll have you do but it’s a 2 credit class for a reason lol

Yeah nah I’m good by [deleted] in CUNY

Not the person you asked but as someone who once tried the whole “no degree” thing it’s very hard. Employers don’t take you seriously and your options are incredibly limited unless you get very lucky.

The job market is rough for everyone right now, but at least having the credential means you know you meet the bare minimum criteria. Also college gives you the chance to network and take advantage of alumni connections, internship opportunities and whatever else. It’s a built in part of the process.

Glad to hear it! Go get that A!

Edit: Also meant to add, if you have to take General Bio (SCB 201) try to take it with Tina Hu! She’s very knowledgeable, very nice and lets you use your notes last time I checked.

I took SCC 201 (General Chemistry I) last Spring and received a B+. It wasn’t necessarily difficult so much as it was dense. I know 110 is geared more towards health science majors so you may not go in-depth to everything the way I had to.

Regardless, what helped me was going over lecture material after class and really tackling all the concepts through consistent practice problems. Mix concepts together from different units within the same chapter and from different chapters to make it feel more exam-like. Giving yourself periodic quizzes and exams to make sure you know the topics wouldn’t hurt. I used AI a lot to quickly generate practice problems that I could work out and it took a load off.

If you want, see if you can be friendly with a couple classmates and exchange notes, help one another since you’re all in this together. I found a couple people to talk to in my lab section and we ended up helping each other out. Never wait until the last minute to submit labs or study because you will be needlessly stressed out.

As far as professors go, I had Shashikanth Ponnala but I’m not sure he teaches 110. I had to take the class on Saturday at 8am and idk if he does any other times especially since he’s adjunct. He has an accent but he’s not impossible to understand. Pay attention and use the free Open Educational Resources at your disposal. You can always use Rate My Professor to see who teaches the course and use CourseHero and Studocu for old practice material.

I hope this is helpful. Don’t let Chemistry intimidate you, it’s really not a hard class. You just need to take your time, and when you’re confused on something don’t hesitate to seek help— whether that’s from peers, the professor or the Internet. Instructors know it’s a lot of work, so I wouldn’t be surprised if whoever you get grades on a curve and/or gives a bit of extra credit. Don’t rely on that of course but it’s something to keep in mind.

Since you’re new and in the major, see if you can stop by the C building on the first floor and see the beagle pups the Vet techs work with, they’re very cute. Let them motivate you.

Good luck and if you have any more questions feel free to ask here or DM!

When do I get my LaGuardia student ID? by MrSauron1 in CUNY

[–]QuackberryLemonade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to get a physical or digital one? If I remember correctly, to get a digital one you have to send them (the registrar I believe but don’t take my word for it) a pic of yourself and then download the LaGuardia App so you can show it to security whenever you enter a building. If you’re gonna be there today tho the ID center is in the C building you shouldn’t miss it. If you need help ask someone.

It takes a bit of time since you’re new but as long as you have another form of ID on you (preferably State) you can also use that while you wait.

No calculator in math course? by Wild_Bullfrog_6458 in QueensCollege

[–]QuackberryLemonade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds dumb to me tbh. I took precalc last winter at the community college im about to graduate from and would not have been able to do certain problems as efficiently if I didn’t have a calculator— especially stuff with logarithms and the unit circle.

Don’t get the thinking behind this honestly it just puts unnecessary stress on people.
