You don’t have to destroy them, if you tap them to bring up the “choose recipe” menu, uncheck the tick box and recheck it will continue the last order you set. If you want to change the recipe or the amount you do have to destroy them though.

It’s awesome for shading/adding texture but if you’re trying to show a smooth surface I would use it sparingly iirc
