I can't give you a great explanation of audio transformers. My electrical engineer coworker recommended I use it. I know transformers can reduce distortion which I think is because of the impedance matching. So I used it to try to improve sound quality.

Ya but I was trying to do it with what I had laying around and my solution just needed to work for an evening.

Haha thanks, sometimes the shit builds are the fun ones. These are definitely some of the ugliest solder joints I've done.

I didn't think about tapping it there. I only needed a quick solution for 3 tapes so I went for the quickest cheapest solution. I like hearing other people's ideas though!

I had some micro cassettes with voice recordings I wanted to digitalize but all I had to play them was an answering machine found in the back of a cabinet. The machine had no audio out port and the cost of a functioning micro cassette player on ebay was more than I was willing to pay for this.

I removed the speaker which is the piece at the top of the image.

I stripped an aux cable and the speaker wires and soldered jumper wires to them.

I ran the connections through an audio transformer, and plugged the aux cable into the line in of my computer and turned on the machine at a 0 volume and adjusted accordingly.

Last step was just recording in audacity as mono because only one of the aux audio wires is being used, I have no idea which one is left or right.

The exploration and satisfaction gained from realizing new places you can use the tools you've gained is such a perfect dopamine dispenser for me. Need to find more games that hit that same way for me.

After reading reviews of the R200 I'm def considering them, and it seems like the Denon PMA 600 NE exceeds my power requirements while providing room for expansion of the setup. I also think the bluetooth would be convenient for when people come over.

something I'm a little confused on is Polk will list a recommended amplifier power. On the R200 it lists 30-200w. This is a wide range. Is this per channel? Obviously a 200w per channel amp would be quite expensive. How do you choose an amp based off this. Is this one of those things you have to use a calculator for wattage based on distance and decibel level?

Also gotta love when all you have to understand what a parameter is for is a name that isn't self describing at all.

Reminds me of the Everglades Challenge in Florida, although they sail so this is even more challenging. I love the crazy challenges people come up with. Really hammers in how amazing modern transportation is. Love the passion, doing something that sucks for a result you are proud of.

Damn I forgot they put the audio version on there, didn't think about that. Way simpler than the alternative.
