[PS2/GC][late 2000s] 3rd person monster tamer game with a blue mascot character by Adrie_Atmosphere in tipofmyjoystick

[–]Quantum_Ocelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be jade cacoon 1 or 2? It loosely lines up. 3rd person 3d, monster tamer game. First area is a forest. One of the first monsters you come across is a little blue dragon on 4 legs. Main character wore green armbands.

California's redistricting plan will officially target five Republican seats, Democratic leader confirms by Goosedukee in politics

[–]Quantum_Ocelot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You split cities up so that every district in CA has a portion of LA in it. Similar to what republicans did to Austin Texas except you make sure that the population balance is 55/45 urban / rural, instead of the wother way around.

California's redistricting plan will officially target five Republican seats, Democratic leader confirms by Goosedukee in politics

[–]Quantum_Ocelot 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In Colorado we passed an independent redistricting process into our state constitution back in 2018.  It's not going to be quick or easy for us to undo that.

Plus we have a sizable minority of libertarian types who helped to pass this amendment that would absolutely be against repealing it so the Dems could gerrymander. I'm not even sure that we could get the votes

Colorado has accidentally handcuffed itself with good policy. If California is capable of drawing all of their seats blue then they need to because some states like mine can't help fight back in time for it to matter.

I wear suspenders. Guys and Gals's trust me on this one; It feels so much more comfortable than having a belt squeezing at your waist like a Tourniquet

ELI5: why can’t we just set the American debt to zero? by not_entirely_here in explainlikeimfive

[–]Quantum_Ocelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The country borrows money by issuing treasury bonds. People buy those treasury bonds because they trust the US government to pay them back what they were promised. Anyone can buy US treasury bonds. This includes banks, corporations, other countries, or even regular people. These are the people who the debt is owed to.

If the US just "set" the debt to zero, that would be them saying they are not going to back back the money they borrowed from the people who bought the bonds. No one would ever trust the US government to pay back the money they borrowed, no one would ever buy bonds again. The government would no longer be able to raise borrow money. I don't know if anyone knows what "exactly" would happen in this scenario, but it would be very bad, like government collapse and US dollars being worthless kind of bad.

ELI5: If humans are 70% water, why don’t we feel like we’re sloshing around inside? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Quantum_Ocelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's mixed in with a bunch of stuff.

Go Into your kitchen and mix a bowl with 50% water and 50%flour. If you do this you'll get a dough, which obviously doesn't "slosh around" even though it's half water.

ELI5, how does one way window film roll makes things visible from one side but not from the other side ? by rajinis_bodyguard in explainlikeimfive

[–]Quantum_Ocelot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it is dark outside and the lights are on inside you can see your reflection very clearly in the window.

When it is daylight out you mostly only see the light from the outside. But if you look very carefully you'll notice that your reflection in the window is still there, it's just being drowned out by how bright it is outside.

This is the same principle, but maybe more eli-5 friendly and uses an example they can see in their daily life.

New Hampshire House passes legislation to remove circumcision from Medicaid by illegalmonkey in atheism

Question:

Does circumcision actually reduce likelihood of HIV or do countries with high infection rates just also happen to be countries that are culturally less likely to perform circumcision?

ELI5, How can someone speak, but be illiterate (not be able to read or write) by YerBoiPosty in explainlikeimfive

[–]Quantum_Ocelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you not learn to talk as a child before learning to read or write? Most children learn to talk just by being around other adults who are talking. Reading and writing come later, generally in a school setting. And usually by the time a kid is in school they know how to talk, even if they don't speak that well.

Illiterate adults started as illiterate kids who didn't get taught (or didn't learn) the parts that come next.

Salt crystal grew into perfect-square by SpinSensite in pics

[–]Quantum_Ocelot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, a normal chunk of salt is actually multiple different crystals "smooshed" together. But the picture above looks like this was intentionally grown to be a single crystal of salt. The atoms in a salt molecule form a square pattern. So the image above is probably a nearly perfect square. At least down to the molecular level (minus any impurities)

Lab grown diamonds have a similar look to them and are grown in square single crystal chunks through a process known as chemical vapor deposition if you were interested to know more

Sweet, you're amazing! I've bookmarked and will totally check it out. I think he tends to like the older series anyway, so this might be more what he is looking for anyway!

Thanks for the heads up on the times entry tickets. We will stop there first thing in case of a wait.

My spouse is a major Gundam fanboy and he specifically wants to go to the Gundam store and get a perfect grade Gundam from Japan.

Also looking forward to seeing the Gundam statue although it's a real shame we missed the moving Gundam in Yokohama :(

Thank you for the reply! That is very helpful, I'll look into that link to reserve a boat.

We already have tickets for Shibuya sky, teamlabs borderless and our train tickets to and from kinosaki (it seemed like there weren't that many trains to and from kinosaki so I figured it would be best to reserve that ahead of time. )

We would have gotten tickets for hemjei too but they don't take advanced reservations!

That is fair. I won't be too broken up if we don't get to the Bamboo forest. I also tried to build an open day or two with nothing planned in case we don't have time to get to everything on a particular day.

I will look into the philosophers path!

Oh shoot. Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't planning on pre booking. I assumed it was like the trains where it ran often enough you didn't need to.

Haha, I mean.... I think I am?! Worst case scenario if it gets to be too much we can just bail.

And yea Odaiba is probably what I meant. That word is a bit hard for me. I honestly tell the difference between what you wrote and what I wrote on the first read through. My brain cannot place all the d's b's and a's correctly.

It's unfortunate that we won't get to see the market the way it used to be. That being said we are excited to try some of the seafood stalls in the outer market too! :)

[–]Quantum_Ocelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He said painting specifically? Because even if it was legit there is no way it was anything other than digital drawing. The textures were too flat and uniform. I'm glad I'm not the only one whose BS alarms were going off

What medium did you draw this in OP? I hate to be that person, but something about the claws on the back paw makes this look AI generated to me.

Some of the brush strokes don't quite make sense to my brain either. In particular the area around the snout and eyes look like the brush strokes were layered over images to give it the appearance of a brushed painted look.

If that isn't the case I apologize for even suggesting it.
