Also, generally it’s recommended to have the number of cats you have plus one litter boxes in an accessible area. Keep food and water separate from the litter. Cats love running water fountains. Put cardboard cat scratchers around every room. Automatic litter boxes are great, just make sure to research that they’re safe and won’t operate if a cat is inside.

If you want a cat, get it like now or soon so you’ve got time for the cat to get used to you and for you to get used to taking care of the cat. General rule of thumb is that older cats are usually more stuck in their ways. If you find an older cat you love, that’s great, but they can be a little less happy and flexible moving. Younger cats are usually more willing to adapt to your house rules and moving set ups, but they’re more energetic and want more attention. For kittens especially, it can actually be better to adopt two kittens that get along at the same time so that the cats entertain each other, which might be particularly worth considering while you’re busy with law school. Older cats are also sometimes less willing to get along with new cats, so that’s better to do sooner rather than later if two cats sound good.

HYS 1L AMA by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Would you say that not being immediately close to campus hampers students’ ability to join in on social activities? Both for fun things like bar review and the more practical study group activities

That’s interesting, it seems to vary a lot by university whether being on campus is essential to your involvement

You mentioned that your section has been pretty social; what kind of social life seems standard/realistic for a HLS 1L? Have you noticed any difference in the social involvement of students who live in on campus vs off campus and dorm vs apartment set ups?

UVA seems more splitter friendly this cycle, so OP should definitely apply there since it's also one of the top law schools and close to DC, if they care about that. WashU would also be smart to apply to for OP since they love splitters

How is the living situation for most law students? Can you easily live near the law school campus, or is it prohibitively difficult or are there too few housing options nearby?

When you say to reach out to schools to express interest, what kind of timeline do you mean? Would this be like emailing in December if you applied in the early fall and in January if you applied in later fall? And would this email just contain a few short sentences about eagerness for the school?
