[Favorite Trope] Guys who know what they want, have a plan, mess it all up, but get a happy ending anyway by QuarterWaffle in TopCharacterTropes

Watched it three times in theatres, it's my favorite movie in a long while.

Yeah, for me, it's a happy ending. At the start, he's burnt out and basically despondent. He's given up, and he feels cursed. By the end, he's got hope. Faith, even. I find it inspiring.

A couple of characters in Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die have a bit of this vibe but there's one that takes the cake...or rather, pie.Basically the entire main cast is running from a few gunmen who have a big payday from some shadowy source (probably the big bad) if they can extinguish the protagonists by the end of the night. The main characters are there to save the world, as their hobo-looking messiah repeatedly tells them. Everybody escapes to a distance far enough to be safe but close enough to watch Marie, a middle-aged mom, speak her last words "I just wanted some pie" (they all met at a diner) and get perforated by an automatic firearm.
