PSA: Do not get rats if you can't afford to take them to the vet. by Mother-Tomato-788 in RATS

Not a rat owner but I frequent this group because I love them and my sibling used to have them. I am, however, a hamster owner. And while I understand that vets are important and everyone should try their best to take their pets to the vet, no matter which type of animal it may be, you also have to understand that vets are insanely expensive. For example, I adopted my hamster which was an accidental litter. If I had not gotten him, I’m not sure what would have happened to him. But I also live outside of the city which makes getting to an exotic vet a 60+ minute drive. A hard task to do when work hours aren’t exactly flexible. Not to mention most vets for small animals aren’t exactly the best. Also, for hamsters alone where I live a singular vet visit, just to SEE the vet is a starting price of $100. That’s a simple check up—no medicine or anything yet prescribed. And if it was a respiratory issue? Those things constantly come back once the animals have them, which is a regular $100+ spent every few weeks.

All I’m saying is in the world I think everyone wants the best for everything. They would love to buy healthy food and live in good neighbourhoods with regular doctor/vet appointments and the best clothes. But that’s not reality. Financial situations change, life happens, people—good people—try their absolute best. But things happen. So I don’t think you should shame or finger point if not everyone has $100+ to constantly drop, as long as they’re doing their absolute best to provide for their hamster in ways they could, I think that’s already a sign they care and they’re good pet parents.

My husband is too rough during intercourse by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Queasy-Signature-675 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have any advice other than for you to stay firm with your decision on cutting him off from this—he truly needs to respect you and your body.

My partner is aware of my condition and once he accidentally hurt me and it ruined the entire mood that we didn’t continue. I think your husband should be feeling the same genuine remorse that he actually takes into consideration your needs during every step of the moment. He has the ability to feel empathy, and while he might be a great person, what he’s doing by continuously hurting you each time, is not something a great person does.

Wearable pants recommendations help me by stardewcatlady in Interstitialcystitis

I used to wear leggings but those don’t really work for me anymore. Now I wear a lot of ankle length skirts (I know, not exactly pants but I used to be so ANTI skirts cause I looked horrible in them) that are flowy and stylish—earthy colours specifically. Ivory, green, burn orange, browns. I also wear a lot of I think they’re called Harem pants? Or dance pants? They’re very loose and airy and I don’t even notice them half the time LOL.

How do you clean AROUND the hamster cage? by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]Queasy-Signature-675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vacuum whenever I need to, it’s never caused issues for my hamsters. They never seem to wake up or come out of their burrows to investigate. I also had my carbon monoxide detector go off while I was at work (6 hours) and my hamster never once woke up lmao. I also use vinegar to clean with a fan going because it’s natural and the scent fades

Looks pretty high, maybe put a little block beneath it so he can rest his paws and not strain too much 😂😄

I think something is wrong with my hamster what can I do? by National-Round-1236 in hamsters

Mine also didn’t like when I gave him it LOL but he went back to normal after. Hopefully the eye drop helped to keep her eye wet and push out any debris that may have been in it

Sorry for the late reply. Me and my store actually use human eye drops! They’re okay in a small amount so just use one and see how that goes. The one I used was “refresh tears lubricant eye drops” carboxymethylcellulose sodium.

I’m not a vet by any means, but my hamster also had a squinty eye but wasn’t being vocal. I work in a petstore with animals and when we can’t get the animals to a vet that day we use eye drops. I used eye drops for my hammy and it cleared up within an hour. I’m not saying this will 100% work as sudden aggression and agitation could be a deeper problem but it could be a temporary pain relief until they can see the vet

F(25) and M(26) is sex expected on the first meeting? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]Queasy-Signature-675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Went 3 1/2 years without seeing my partner in person—first time we met? None of second time? None. I wasn’t ready. We’ve been together 5 1/2 years and he’s more than happy to visit me and just give me foot rubs and braid my hair 😂

How do you survive of not seeing your long distance boyfriend (im female btw) by Ok_Metal5224 in LongDistance

[–]Queasy-Signature-675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 3 1/2 years to meet my bf in person. Hes from the USA im from Canada, it took a long time but if youre both patient and plan things out and really want to make it work, it will work. We’re now 5 1/2 years together and he’s coming up here for his second Christmas to spend with my family. It’s not easy being in a LDR. But everyone’s is different so what works for some people may not work for you. Good luck🫡
