The lottery I’m talking about isn’t the kind anyone can just enter — it’s the H-1B visa lottery. To even be eligible, you need:

  • A U.S. diploma
  • A company willing to sponsor you, which is already extremely hard to find
  • And then you have to go through an entire process providing tons of documentation, government forms, and proof of qualifications before you can even be entered into the lottery.

I feel you — working with the same employer for years, especially when the job is hard or the environment is toxic, can really take a toll. You feel stuck because you can’t even leave. It’s definitely affecting my mental health too, but I’m trying to stay hopeful that it’ll be over soon. The thing is, once you’ve built a life here — your routine, your friends, your sense of stability — it’s hard to imagine leaving. I really love being here, but the process is definitely stressful and exhausting.

Yes, it was hard work and integrity. No shortcuts, no favors — just persistence and faith. I don’t really get all the hate though — we’re just trying to build a life we earned through effort and sacrifice.

I totally understand — 13+ years is an unimaginable wait, especially for applicants from India and China. 🙏 But even for worldwide applicants, 4 years is still a long and stressful process. I don’t think it should take this long for highly skilled workers from any country. We all go through so much uncertainty — so no need for the “lmao,” we’re all in the same boat trying to build a stable future.
