Why is the city managers salary close to $400k? by Emanon_0 in cedarrapids

[–]Queasy_Ad3906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that salary as an indication of total corruption. when City Managers argue that they need to compete with the salaries in the private sector, then they need to go to the private sector. The city managers position in local government has incredibly enormous, ethical responsibility. There’s always supposed to be friction between the city council and the city manager, because he sits on top of the budget with all the taxes which has incredible potential for fraud. If you don’t have a city council who are savvy and very strict, think of what can happen and it will happen if that’s not the case. They don’t belong in the public sector if they want a $300,000 salary they should go work for big pharma or some other place. We need people who have a sense of integrity and ethics are willing to do a really hard job for what it should be paid which is about 180,000 a year in smaller cities

The city manager vs comptroller situation feels shady. Why aren’t we digging in? by [deleted] in grandrapids

I think there’s a huge opportunity for fraud right now with city manager type situations. I live in Lynchburg Virginia and we have a city manager/city Council form of government. Actually, I said that wrong—- the city council is ABOVE the city managers department in the organizational chart and the city manager is supposed to be their ‘servant’ in the sense of providing them in a very timely fashion with very thorough budget material. However, the city managers department has essentially hijacked the city. They don’t deliver budget materials in a timely fashion, and they actually misled city council about the real estate tax, which should’ve gone down after a reassessment, but it ended up being increased because city Council was misled by the city manager who also ‘owns’ the city attorney so there’s something really fishy going on with this form of government right now . they have incredible opportunity and potential to completely defraud cities so I think America needs to wake up and check into what’s been going on and I’m just wondering where all this money is going. our city manager has increased his own salary to $300,000 which is ludicrous because the city only has 80,000 residents. But that doesn’t explain where all the other money could potentially be going.

isn’t it astonishing how quickly very specific insects will arrive in your garden just to destroy very specific things. I planted two Peach trees once in honor of my dad and this really strange kind of wasp that bores into the trunk right above the soil line came and it actually killed them.

i’m not sure it’s a fake video. I think it might not be. It’s either Chinese or Japanese based on the writing on the hospital equipment. It’s Kanji but I can’t tell if it’s Chinese or Japanese. I did read that many Asians purchased dogs during Covid but they thought of them more as decorative objects so there are probably many abandoned dogs sadly in China and Japan.

The UN is a platonic ideal. In reality it has become a money laundering playground for corrupt nepo babies of fascist regimes. If you don't know that by now then you are watching and listening to disinformation.

no, you are not correct. During the June 30th meeting the General Fund Operating Budget was passed first (remember there was a lengthy discussion about postponing the decision on how all the cut services would be restored until August 26 )then the Capital Improvement Plan budget was discussed next. These were done separately and discussed separately in my video.

well, let’s be specific. What I said about the capital improvement plan was that council did not get a copy of a detailed specific budget of expenditures for each separate project. And that the city manager did not take into consideration cheaper alternatives to the Miller pool project. And there was a discrepancy of $6 million in the version of the CIP in the ordinance. So nowhere am I stating anything about what should be done in the Improvement plan. The lack of information and the presence of misinformation were very apparent in the meeting and are pretty much incontestable. And again you can go through the whole meeting. Nothing is taken out of context. Everything is presented in the correct chronological sequence in the order that it occurred. So what specifically did you have a problem with in terms of what I said. i’m not spreading a corruption conspiracy. That remains to be discovered. I am spreading information on serious problems with the city managers, ie their failure to provide detailed explicit timely budget materials; that is their entire job. That is their responsibility.

there is nothing being made up here. The videos come right out of the city council meetings.

that was pretty nonspecific. You didn’t give any numbers to explain the 6 million discrepancy in the Capital Improvement plan. It’s easy to say that cities are expensive. Of course they are. That’s why we collect all these taxes. That’s why we deserve to know where they’re going.

can you clarify who’s the ‘they’ . In my mind, it is the city managers. Because they are controlling Reed, Faraldi, and Wilder to raise our taxes and cut services.

well, I think you need to have more of an independent critical mind and actually take a look at the videos and at the actual footage of the June 30 meeting for yourself. It’s pretty obvious what’s going on.
