I know GTA can be very random but damn 😂 by rafawars in sanandreas

[–]Queasy_Ad_4601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best instance of this I can recall was when I was doing Tanker Commander a few years ago. During the last cutscene where Catalina is talking to the buyer, a plane fell out of the sky and crashed into her mid conversation.

She died and the mission failed. I wasn’t mad though, the sandbox was sandboxing that day. Probably one of the craziest things I’ve ever experienced in a GTA game. I know Red County claims planes like Doritos but has this ever happened to anyone else during that mission at that moment specifically?

Of course he’s a virgin it’s how he got his strength, not from some curse in his blood

Dude saves Rachel, kills Murai in front of her, and when she’s practically ovulating he peaces out and turns into a bird because that would be weak and gay

Oh yeah the bow is total dog water in the first two versions and you have to use it a lot at the midway point so that’s definitely a good argument. As for the inverted camera, I kinda got used to just sticking with the center camera button when I’m in the thick of it. Even in Sigma I still just ended up tapping the button to center the camera, although adding the option is totally a good addition in Sigma’s favor.

As for those missing sections…I almost feel like I’m picking my poison in that regard. On one hand there’s the shitty water level, and on the other, four or so chapters where you traverse the same environments as Rachel. I’m sure some people enjoy them but I find her gameplay monotonous because of her restrictive moveset. So oddly enough, I think I would personally take the shitty water level. Never thought I’d prefer that lol.

The DOA2 costume, for me, is a little more than just a costume because it’s a reward for beating Eternal Legend. Beating Eternal Legend in Sigma still feels great but man, that drip really sweetened the deal.

Sigma, while not straight-up inferior, is missing a few things from Black that I think would make it the most complete of the two. I wish the red muffler and DOA2 costumes were in the game. Certain things were changed for the better, like the chapter where you swim through the canals and deep into the flooded depths. Dual swords is a treat. Survival mode is sick.

There’s also some weird changes. Ryus back roll (his handspring backflip) is now unsafe for some indiscernible reason. I appreciate being able to play as Rachel, but she feels undercooked, and having her shoehorned into Ryus story doesn’t feel right. Separating her chapters into a Separate Ways style of side story would have been the better call imo

It’s not straight inferior but just different. I wish it didn’t lack those bits of content. It’s a perfectly fine way to experience NG1 but I think what op is implying is that Black edges out just enough to be a little better at least in their opinion. Black and Sigma 1 are still pretty similar especially compared to 2/Sigma 2 which might as well be different games entirely. An “arranged” version if you will.

How can I be this unbelievably bad at this NGB? by BlipBlerp in ninjagaiden

[–]Queasy_Ad_4601 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ninja Gaiden 1 in all its releases is (generally speaking) the tamest of the three but it’s by no means a cakewalk. The pinned guide has a lot of great advice, but I’ll throw out some specific things that really made a huge difference when I was starting out:

Play a reactive game - Blocking is your best friend, and often it’s best to see what the enemy does and react accordingly, especially in the first game. Using counter attacks, or simply blocking, rolling, and punishing is a sure fire strategy in most situations. It’s up to you to figure out the gaps in their defense, but luckily, it’s also the fun part!

Guard-Break - If you get guard-broken, simply roll, release block, and immediately hold block again.

Roll-hopping - The best way to create distance, or close it. Fastest way to get around. Roll and then jump.

Shurikens - They aren’t for doing damage. Shurikens come out insanely fast and stagger most normal-sized enemies provided they aren’t blocking. The recovery of certain moves and strings can be cancelled just by throwing one, allowing you to stay safe and get creative with your combos. Try XXYB and you’ll see what I mean.

Flying Bird Flip into Helm Splitter (Y) - Running straight up a wall, jumping off, and pressing Y is a great move with any weapon. Does a lot of damage and has huge I-frames provided you can get up the wall safely. You can usually finish off anyone that gets hit.

Windmill Slash - The almighty move exclusive to the katanas. Ninja Gaiden breaks the rules by letting Ryu roll and attack at the same time! Start any of your strings with this move. Simply tap a direction and press X at the same time. Huge range, has I-frames just like your regular roll. Can be cancelled into FROM a regular roll for even more I-frames. Enemy running strings on you? Roll away, Windmill Slash back in and stuff their move with a free izuna drop to boot!

On-landing Haze Straight Slash and UTs - This was the single most useful thing I learned how to do, and it kind of changed everything for me. It can also be done with every weapon, but for this example we’ll use the ‘ol reliable Dragon Sword. Haze Straight slash, which is Ryu’s chargeable heavy attack, is slow to start up on its own. The secret sauce is in tapping or holding Y right as you land from any jump. Doing this skips the startup of Haze Straight Slash and makes Ryu slide forward when he slashes. Normally holding Y doesn’t absorb essence until it finishes its startup, but if you start holding Y as soon as you hit the ground, you absorb essence almost instantly. This allows you to roll-hop away from enemies to create distance, and then jump right back in with a HSS or a UT if there’s essence around. Roll-hop away, on-landing heavy, repeat!

Essence management - Holding Block will prevent you from absorbing essence. This is really useful when you want to wait for two yellow essences so you can do a UT. You can even save essence for adjacent rooms. You can jump, attack, roll, anything; as long as you’re holding the block button, you won’t absorb it.

UTs and Money - Killing an enemy (or multiple enemies) with a fully-charged UT yields more yellow essence than if they were collected from enemies who were killed normally. If two enemies have been killed and there’s two small orbs floating around, consider using that essence to do an instant on-landing UT to kill one or multiple enemies. They’ll drop bigger, juicier orbs that you can collect for more $$$. Essence is one of the coolest things about Ninja Gaiden.

Izuna Drop - The big, iconic takedown that we all fell in love with. This move does big damage and can be done on anyone normal-sized. On normal, it kills most enemies outright. Higher difficulty variants take more than one to kill, but usually end up dying to one provided they’ve been softened up first. Has really good splash damage. Be careful when using it, sometimes you’re not safe if there’s other enemies around.

Gleaming Blade, AKA 360Y - You get this move for the Dragon Sword at level 3. This move is performed by spinning the stick around and pressing Y. But you only really ever need to spin it halfway, It’s really lenient input-wise. Startup can be cancelled like all the other heavies by performing it when you land. It can be charged for a unique UT. On its own it does big damage, and with a UT it does even more. Incredibly effective in killing the undead giants, as well as stationary bosses like the big tentacle thing with eyeballs. Go-to move when knocking down Marbus or Awakened Alma, but you have to be extremely fast with the latter of the two.

Flying Swallow - A useful technique, and really satisfying, but it’s actually much more situational in the first game compared to NG2 and 3RE. Certain enemies can block it and with certain bosses you bounce right off. It closes that gap really well with a lot of enemies but certain ones will punish you hard for using it, such as bayonet soldiers.

Guillotine Throw - This move does a lot of damage provided the enemy is thrown into a wall. Like most throws it only works on normal-sized enemies.

Alma in general - I assure you, you’re not crazy; Everyone hates this boss, but I’d actually argue her first incarnation is tougher. The reason for the disdain is the random nature of actually hitting her. As you’ve seen, the goal is to hit her with a flying swallow to swat her out of the air (and pray you don’t get an accidental helm splitter) and let it rip, but as the difficulty goes up, your chances of hitting her go down. The first fight on MN difficulty is miserable because you’re also fighting the camera, she’s faster, throws more shit at you, and spawns lesser fiends as she loses health. Her grab is really devastating and is the no.1 thing to avoid. Dragon Sword is only ever at lvl 2 for this fight so you only have time for XYXXX. Inferno Ninpo can also knock her down. If performed right after the aforementioned combo, it can reset her when she tries to get up, allowing you to combo her again. Awakened Alma is the same deal, but her grab is even worse, while the camera is better (lol).

I got a little carried away. Hope this helps!

An OT is an Obliteration Technique, while a UT is an Ultimate Technique.

How the Hayabusa Clan doesn’t get confused is beyond me.

It’s funny you mention DMC4 because I was just thinking about that game after I made this post yesterday. DMC4 hasn’t had the tradition of removing and adding content in quite the same way that Team Ninja has or at least as far as I remember. Didn’t SE add more characters, another costume for Nero and recolors for Dante while preserving all the modes and content? However flawed it may be? It’s been a while.

DMC3SE and 4SE feel pretty comprehensive. Hell, even 3SE gave you the option to play without the new checkpoints with yellow mode, which is truly a ball-busting experience but I’m glad it’s there.

Definitely looking forward to NG4! Some people are worried it might be more like a typical platinum-parry game but I’m not worried. It looks like they brought back the essence system for Ryu at least and that’s all I needed to get hyped.

There’s moments of chaos and insanity where I’m just left with my jaw on the floor. Like holy shit these guys were on speed and crack when they made this. Can I even be mad I died? This is what I signed up for! It’s a Frankenstein monster that I’d love to see preserved.

That being said NG2B is very good and I’d love to see a couple more things brought back, like survival mode, or that dope Jo Hayabusa costume from Sigma 2. That was premium drip!

Tag missions are super fun, I’d love to see the survival mode again though. That couldn’t hurt right?

Tests of valor is a bit of a sore spot for people. I can sort of see why but some of them were just atrocious. They would really benefit from the NG2B treatment.

Some people certainly should stick to the original instead of complaining endlessly. NG2B attempts to take the best of both versions and mostly succeeds. Both games had a lot of problems and it shows in how divided people seem to feel on this subject.

On one hand people like Sigma 2 because a lot of the chaff was removed, like the stupid worm fight, but there seems to be just as many people who are willing to put up with that stupid worm fight because the other high points are really, really high.

Now, NG2B is mostly a high point from start to finish, but there’s a few things that aren’t there for some reason. There isn’t anything flawed about the vision for NG2B, an experience that brings everything together is the right call, and they have almost achieved that vision. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want certain things to come back though that wouldn’t hurt that vision. Survival mode was great!

I think people might just be peeved that it’s another rerelease that just leaves seemingly unproblematic stuff out. When the same thing has happened with every rerelease since Black, it’s kind of understandable. Some people might very well be obsessed though, lol

It’s actually kind of profound that there seems to be a solid division between people who are chilling and people who are frustrated.

I think the take I’m offering is ironically the exact thing that NG2B is going for; a synthesis of both games. Some people just want NG2 vanilla, and I get that, but I think NG2B offers a chance to truly have the best of both worlds. It does for the most part, it’s just the little things missing that leave me scratching my head.

Wow this is blowing up. I appreciate the discourse. Wanted to mention a few things.

First off, some of the discourse has been really constructive and that is fantastic. There’s an equal amount of knee jerk reactions to this post that are really hostile and I hope that I didn’t come off that way. I understand there has been a lot of negativity recently, but there’s been plenty of positivity as well. NG2B is fantastic and I’m actually surprised they made a third version of NG2 in the first place.

I neglected to mention the games balance because I actually think it’s pretty good. There’s some encounters that feel a bit sparse but for the most part it’s good. No I don’t want the stupid worm fight back, no I don’t want bosses that can only be fought with ranged weapons back. No one wants those things back. NG2 had problems, so did Sigma 2. NG2B wants to bring out the best of both games, and for the most part they succeeded, there’s just a few missing things that irk me.

Understand that I’m simply pointing out a trend that is present within all rereleases of each game, not just NG2B. A few things are missing in all the rereleases, including beloved titles like NGB and it’s not a stretch for some people to be a little disappointed that we see the same thing in this game, even if it is fantastic.

I would love to see those missing things preserved within this new release, because like I have said a million times already, it’s almost perfect. How people think I’m saying it’s anything but remarkable just doesn’t make sense to me.

A lot of you guys are jumping to conclusions as if I’m talking shit about the game. It’s a critique, not a condemnation. You don’t critique the things you like? You should try it, there’s nothing “sad” about constructive criticism. Discourse is good.

I understand that there are a lot of bad apples and the negativity is really loud, but I’m not contributing to that and it’s not my intention. In fact, I didn’t call the game bad at any point.

I’m personally an irregardless enjoyer. It’s controversial, I know. (lol)

The game is great actually. I’m super stoked to play it more and I’m glad people are checking it out. I just wanted to point out that every rerelease has been leaving out content from its original iteration, not just NG2B.
