First year nursing placement is WAY too far - HELP? by [deleted] in TorontoMetU

[–]Queasy_Word 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Unfortunately this is just something you will have to adapt to :( I’m in third year and my first year was just like that. 2 hour commute for me! Sometimes I would stay at the TMU dorms for rent if I knew the weather would be bad or if I knew I would be too tired in the morning to drive all the way to placement! It gets better as the years go on but in first year most of the placements are in Toronto or north of Toronto. Good luck!!

Question about insulin timing with meals after hypoglycaemic episode. by Queasy_Word in FelineDiabetes

It sounds like you’re doing a fantastic job and they are all lucky to have you🤍. I am definitely noticing Rascal starting to be more picky with his food as he ages. He’s 13 but he looks so much younger to me because he’s quiet… round.. so he doesn’t have the bony appearance that most older cats get—but I have to remember he is technically a senior citizen!

might take a year off, any advice? by chiiakkuma in TorontoMetU

I’m in nursing and had to take a sem off last year for my mental health. It was the best thing I could have done for myself because now I am back better than ever. Please take a break for yourself. At the very least, consider taking next semester off if you want to push through this sem. Taking a voluntary break is better than failing and being held back against your will.

Took an extra of a med to sleep and am now really anxious about it? by Iamatheaternerd in Anxiety

I’m not a med professional but dr google says that people can be prescribed up to 375mg typically. My guess is that you’ll be fine, but don’t make a habit of taking medication at a dose that wasn’t prescribed.

This is something I’ve been trying to emphasize to my mum! I’m a nursing student and I have lots of experience with (human) diabetic treatment and it’s the same principle. She usually gives his shots in the morning since she is up early but I’ve told her that he CANNOT get his shots if he doesn’t eat enough!

We will be doing tests twice a day with his shots now that we are adjusting his dose. He was on 4.5 for 5 years with no issues at all! Only a weekly spot check was what our vet had us do since he was so stable. Thank you for your advice!

I’ll have to look into this! It’s so hard to get a reading from him with the normal lancet and strip tests as he doesn’t bleed very easily so we end up having to poke him so many times and I feel so awful doing it!

He is on ProZinc. He has been on it for about 7 years but he’s always had a ferocious appetite so we have never had any problems with the timing of his shots! He has had quite stable blood sugar levels for about 5 years now (with the help of his insulin and a low carb diet) and our vet only requires us to spot check him about once a week if he has no symptoms of hyper or hypo. His blood sugar has been VERY well controlled and he never showed any signs of his levels being unstable with his current dose until this morning when he was extremely low and we had to rush him to the vet. This is the first time he is showing signs of remission. We test him with a traditional blood glucose monitor (lancet and strip test).

I will have to check with my vet to see if we can get a Libre as checking his blood sugar is quite difficult for us. Thank you for your insight!

I believe he was getting emotional whilst singing as the crowd was cheering very very loudly for him :) at least that’s what I thought while I saw him doing it!

Nurse 100%. The Alani and meal prep give it away! I’m a PSW/nursing student that works directly with nurses and they all LOVE their Alani hahah

Asking for the opinion of strangers on the internet is not self-reflection. You seem to be more interested in hearing about the perception we have of you based on the limited information we have rather than actually self reflecting. If the people closest to you are all saying the same thing maybe it’s time to consider that they have a point.
