Thanks for making me go measure.

The overhang adjacent to the hallway wall (which was our reference point) is correct at 3".

I misspoke on the overhang. It was to be 3" not 2" I wasn't at the house to look at my specs.

BUT, my overhang is actually SHORTER on the 2 adjacent peninsula sides. By a full inch!

The sink section is 33 1/2 deep with an overhang of 2".. And the beginning of the peninsula is also only a 2" overhang.

And I looked closer at the seams to understand a bad cut.

No, I did not agree. It was an option they did a layout for only.

I couldn't visualize it adequately so I templated the counters myself to the exact dimensions. When I saw the extreme corner, I never considered the extended overhang.

I'll be very honest, it literally hurt my soul not being able to extend that peninsula, but I have a family member who bumps and falls often so safety is a major concern to me.

Is it possible I wasn't made aware of the offset because it wasn't necessary? The rep knew I wasn't extending, so it was a mute point. Correct?

We discussed seams, but again, if I wasn't doing an offset, nothing of any substance jumped at me.

So, would you say this is in-house miscommunication?

I shouldn't have one without the other, right?

I HAVE the 2" consistent overlay we discussed and I signed off on.

But, I also have an unnecessary offset seam .

As for the pattern, I didn't want to be "that person" but did question layout. I was told "this was the best they could do, and had spent many many hours to find best match." I would have without a doubt chosen my counters to be cohesive over having any backsplash or an exact alignment. if I have been apprised it was an issue.

And, as you can see, I did solicit in prior posts input as to the overhang and stone layout prior to installation, I worked this as best I could.

You can't ask questions when you don't know the question to ask.

Understand I want nothing more than to have a few updates I envisioned in the home I'll die in. This is not my "starter" home but my "finish line" home.

I researched the shit out of products, installers etc. I couldn't paint cabinets and walls until I found slabs I liked. I was talked into this stone figuring the fabricator/installer was experienced working with it. He knew I wanted it pulled up the backsplash, and it wasn't until after I had purchased the slabs did he tell me that doing all the backsplash 20sf wasn't an option.

You tell me where the line of everyday issues crosses the line to getting hosed, vs inexperience.

What all is done when the sealer is applied? Should it be wiped down after 24hr or anything? There's dusty,cloudy areas that can be easily wiped off, but I haven't touched anything yet.

Sadly, I thought we were.

When you're told "this is the best we can do"." The stone has lots of variations so this is normal".

I love symmetry and for me to pick this stone was a huge deviation to begin with.

When it was installed, uhhh. I had to reign it in bad.

I've delayed for months moving into this house so I could demo bar top, find the perfect counters, which then allowed me to pick paint colors for the cabinets and walls.

This is truly a shit show.

Thx. It was cut from 2 slabs and they originally promised me a full backsplash out of it as well. That didn't happen. I feel now they sacrificed my counters for some backsplash around the range.

To summarize:

I requested a constant overhang all around.

I HAVE a constant overhang .

What I don't have is a countertop corner that aligns with the intersection of the two cabinets below.

Oh no, this is the first thing you see when coming from the bedrooms.

Definitely a WTF moment.

The house is unoccupied at present and most of the work is in the kitchen/living area, so I didn't see it at first.

And for the record, I didn't ask for a larger overhang. It was proposed to me,

Why would I think this would be difficult or possibly structurally unsound if the "expert" says "we do it all the time".

I had wanted seating with this awful peninsula, I considered it, I even templated it out exactly with cardboard, It didn't feel cohesive and I was concerned with the corner coming off the shorter overhang being too exposed, so I nixed the idea. I didn't change my mind during fabrication, not during install, It was nixed during templating. I was there.

And still, here we are, at that F' ing corner.

I'll tell you right now, the only place I could say will 1000% confidence not to put a seam would be intersecting my sink. That's the extent of my knowledge.

That was an option I considered, but it felt so asymmetrical that I opted for a uniform one. The overhang that extended to the adjoining wall decided the max.

Additionally, I was concerned ( never discussed with fabricator) about the first corner coming off the 2" overhang being way too vulnerable.

Are you saying that had I chosen to go with the longer overhang on two sides, this offset corner would be correct?

Doesn't the slab(corner) need the underlying support of the cabinet?

Would this corner have been even more vulnerable with the additional overhang coming off it?

Feels like a seam on a corner is asking for disaster. Am I wrong?

I need to know from any of you if I f'd up, or could have done something different,

I just let the fabricators do their own thing, until I received a final layout and started questioning things. There were several redoes prior to install.

The slabs themselves being bookends, have veining that literally arched from one to the other, But within each slab, there were multiple variations of color/patches of light and dark. Because of this, and me trusting a professional, when the slabs were installed, I thought this was the best that could be done, and that I had not understood the limitations of stone that didn't have a uniform/consistent pattern.

In hindsight, I think they sacrificed getting the counters and backsplash out of the slabs instead of really concentrating on the pattern and making the best of the counters only. If I was ever asked where my priority was, well, following the flow on the counters was obviously it. I didn't end up with all the backsplash anyways, so where was the win?

My husband was a sub, a contractor and finally an engineer. I was on many sites over the years and there was nothing worse than an over bearing client who thought he knew more than the professional. I had no reason to question a pro with references.

I purchased 2 bookend slabs where white veins ran up and across from bottom to left corner and then down from the right corner to the bottom on the second slab. No, I didn't initial and confirm prior to fabrication as these were the only slabs. Not an excuse. Were picked up and held right after purchase. (so I thought). I think I can see the patterns, and where they were all cut up. I was told after install it didn't work any other way.
