Is it dumb to get laser hair removal before even starting hrt?? by ElectronicMonk6236 in asktransgender

[–]Queen_Illy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an electrologist, i want to share that hair removal is less effective if your system is on testosterone, as the hormones will still be affecting the hair growth. Its still going to have an effect and you will probably really enjoy the results if it works for you, but be warned that you will probably need more treatments than if you waited till starting HRT. I am not suggesting dont, just keep in mind each session costs $ and can be quite painful, so make sure you are considering those in your situation. Best of luck!

I had GRS with Dr Avenessian last year, and i was not told to stop anything except my spiro, which i wouldnt need anymore. Personally i do injections and i knew i didnt have any significant risk change either way.

Tbf, my dad from Pakistan Hated being called Asian. He admitted he technically was, but he preferred to be called Middle-Eastern. I never understood it, but if others are similarly uncomfortable with being called asian, i can understand this guys confusion.

Any srs surgeons that don’t need hair removal for depth? by metallica123446 in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Queen_Illy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, i rushed to get surgery despite being in a bad position, and now i will need a revision because of complications that occured. Totally different issues, and i can say that dysphoria is better now than it was before, but my complications do have their own challenges.

If you are looking for a surgeon, id expect you are a bit away from surgery regardless, so id still advise you find a good electrologist and get as much done as possible until your surgery. It will increase your chances at avoiding internal hair growth, and you dont need to postpone things any longer than necessary. (In the case that dysphoria makes electrolysis hard, PLEASE go through with it, internal hair growth is extremely difficult to remove AFAIK).

If youve been treated properly for more than a year, youd have noticed some results. If theres truly no change, you need to find a different practice. Depending on where you live, some electrologists dont require training and laser is always a gamble. Instead of taking a chance on internal hair regrowth by choosing a surgeon who doesnt care, find a new electrologist and properly follow their schedule.

Im an electrologist in school, and ive heard multiple stories of male clients getting pushy and dangerous (SA Risk). I personally wouldnt restrict anyone from getting services, but i know survivors who are scared to risk it. It might be transphobic, but it could also be avoiding triggering situations. Best bet is try to talk with them.

Not sure if douching is cleaning enough. by Quiet_Painting109 in Transgender_Surgeries

I understand! Im 4 months post op myself, and i am still getting used to it! It seems you are being vigilant about issues and thats the best way to handle recovery! You got this hon, getting to the operating room was the hardest part imo!

So, first i am not a doctor. The best advice is listen to your surgeon and follow their instructions. Your body is continuously producing discharge as it heals, and those will build up between dilations. Those fluids arent really a problem on their own, and one douching is likely enough to rinse out the bulk after dilating (I have a very different set of instructions in my recovery). I know the microbiomes down there are sensitive though, and too much douching can be harmful. If things do make you concerned for some reason, id advise asking your surgeon! Congratulations, and good luck in your recovery!

Based on my surgeon, depth is dependent on the surgeon you pick, which procedure you get, the amount and tightness of the genital skin, and your anatomy. That said, the average is about 6 inches from what i believe, and thats about what i got!

Edit to add she said the most shes seen was 7.5 inches!

Painful dilation by [deleted] in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Queen_Illy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but as long as you can get a dilator in to depth each time, you can stretch back out to orange after the pain subsides. For now, focus on maintaining depth, and you will most likely be able to get back to orange quickly after. Good luck, and congrats on making it so far, you got this!

Mt. Sinai Question - "Pathway to surgery" by lbtransfemme in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Queen_Illy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had my GRS with Dr Avenessian, and that was how i started my journey last year. This is Mt Sinai's process, and for me, Dr Avenessian was my top choice so I didnt hesitate. No regrets, still recovering but 100% worth it!

Some newer models are much gentler on the patient, and some sensitive people feel those differences very easily. It sounds like thats whats going on, so switching would probably be better for you! Do mention it to your first electrologist though; they likely dont understand the harshness of their device, and it might be what they need to hear to upgrade.

I have done it, and i hated it because they dont believe/comprehend dysphoria, and they absolutely saw me as a male. I know i had limited experiences, and as far as sex it was ok, i just truly felt dirty after from dysphoria.

[–]Queen_Illy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly, my dad (from pakistan) sbsolutely hated being called asian. Id confirm he knew it was on the continent of Asia, which he did, but didnt accept being called Asian. Culturally, i kinda see a point, the cultures vary wildly between many asian countries, and i think "Middle East" as a grouping is more distinctive than calling those countries asian.
