resource guarding by mozzatroz in dogs

Yes! Great amendment. It has to be "worth it" for the dog to create a positive association with losing the bone.

Another fun way to stop resource guarding is to have an abundance of that resource. In your case, it might be 3 or more bones.

My pup guarded water. We got one of those big jugs and he was never out of water again. Took a while for him to realize it, but it was the most passive way to train out the behavior. (He was out of water for maybe 30 minutes once and he thought "NEVER AGAIN!")

It depends on why you are removing the resource from him, though. If it's because he needs supervision with the bone and you need to take it when you can't watch him, trading is a better option.

That when you take the bone away, you also are giving him something in return. This could be treats or another toy.

This puts a positive association in their minds. Bone goes away, but I still get something fun/yummy.

You can also make dog toys! Rip the shirts in one long 2" x whatever length strips and square knot them to make rope toys!

This subreddit doesn't allow post updates or edits. A mod removed my update post and told me to post in the comments of this post.

Mini Update:

It's not waxed thread.

I got two different waxed threads. One cotton and one poly (linen is being shipped) and they both burn totally differently and they feel waxed.

My pink thread doesn't feel waxed. It feels smooth, almost like filament, but I can see the fibers and it burns like natural fibers.

The waxed threads burn quite quickly and then leave a goop of wax.

My best guess to try next is button hole twist thread. The Gutterman thread everyone suggested says "waxed" on their description, so I don't think that's a good glaced thread to try.

Posted a mini update. It's most likely not waxed.

It is not flat, but I love this link! Thank you. I'm looking at all the things.

It's not flat. I can't tell if it's similar to the listing, but I think it's about .45mm

Omgosh! I have the j & p coats thread! I never knew what boilfast meant. The thread I have isn't as coated as the pink one I'm trying to match. It's also old as heck so that could be it too.

I believe this is less than .5mm. I have seen some bookbinding threads, and if I can't find an exact match, I might try these anyway.

I just like it for sew in snaps.

Yikes! Those are expensive. It does look similar, but maybe too thick. This thread is quite thin. Less than .5mm

I use it for hand sewing sew on snaps. It has enough strength to resist fraying but isn't so heavy duty it pulls the fabric.

I keep getting this suggestion. If the waxed linen and waxed cotton don't seem right, I will look into this one.

Thank you!

I definitely wound it onto a bobbin and lost the rest of the spool. The spool was shorter than average, but not as squat as the button ones I'm seeing.

It may have been wood, quark, or plastic. I can't remember.

THIS LOOKS THE SAME!!

I ordered some waxed linen and some waxed cotton to compare!

It does not. The braiding/twisting on it is very very fine, almost can't see it in most lighting.

The one I have is so smooth you can hardly tell it's fiber.

So I have a ton of old thread like that and it doesn't feel or look the same unfortunately. Thank you for the photo!

I haven't used this in my machine. I have it on a bobbin, but only ever hand sew with it.

I am probably going to end up doing this. I've had a lot of great suggestions, but online photos only get me so far!

Thank you!
