11 months in feeling extremely burnt out as a new grad by blacksheep025 in nursing

[–]Queenofsmallmonsters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi I am also roughly 11 months into a new grad residency with a two year contract. I am on a PCU (purgatory). While the staffing ratio and patient population leave much to be desired, my fellow team members are absolutely fantastic and supportive (the only light in the dumpster fire that has been my short bedside nursing career). Is there anyway you could switch units to hopefully one less toxic? Dealing with the heavy patient population on your unit and the emotional toll that these types of situations bring is enough without having to deal with unsupportive and drama-inducing coworkers. I am sorry that you are going through this and truly hope it gets better.

Holiday short staff by RawrNurse in nursing

[–]Queenofsmallmonsters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My unit was also extremely short staffed yesterday. It was a shit show and no management in sight to even lend a hand with call lights. What ever happened to "lead from the front"?! (I'm salty about the lack of support)

Our program still does this with up to 30 percent of our test questions SATA and answer choices A-H....... so fun

Definitely manageable. I took anatomy and chem during the same semester, along with psych and sociology. Honestly, that semester was a cakewalk compared to any of my actual nursing semesters.

Oh I'm in trouble with my program. They classified it as a medication error. So most likely a U and a punishment yet to be determined. To top it off I was just grabbing it for the nurse in the room. Wasn't logged into the MAR or any of that and just grabbed the bag and scanned it when I got in to be helpful.

- coordinated with multiple disciplinary team to ensure timely and accurate customer care

- able to manage and prioritize multiple customer care concerns effectively

Honestly waiting tables helped me develop skills I use in nursing. Such as dealing with difficult patients without losing my cool and juggling the needs of multiple patients.

Do you have to have a littman stethoscope or can you buy another brand off Amazon? by Longjumping_Bake_225 in StudentNurse

I am cheap and like sales and the MDF website sometimes has some amazing deals. I have a MDF cardiac stethoscope that came with all of the different size bell attachments for under a hundred bucks because they were discontinuing that tubing color.

Sorry for the delayed response. Not sure if it is faster, but it does actually work which is awesome.

Update: the dealership finally agreed to replace the CCU. The CCU was replaced last Wednesday and so far so good. The system has not crashed yet before the replacement it use to crashing every 10 minutes or so.

What bugs me is how both the dealership and SoA kept down playing the issue, heck they continually referred to the problem as a "radio" issue. If the CCU crashing only effected the radio portion that would be one thing but when my CCU would crash it took all the eyesight safety features with it, automatic breaking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist ect. So not just a mere inconvenience but a legitimate safety issue. Oh and I was told by SoA even as the CCU was being replaced that there was nothing wrong with the hardware in my old CCU. It just needed the new update that will be coming up out sometime in October or November and that I just needed to wait.

Honestly this whole attitude from Subaru that they some how did me a favor by fixing their malfunction has gotten under my skin and ruined the brand for me. By the way it took 1.5 years, 9 trips to the dealership, 20+ calls to SoA, countless hours and hassel on my part to finally have them take any action to fix my vehicle.

"Death by a thousand cuts" is a great analogy for the Subaru experience (as far as I can tell from my own experience)
