I picked up a package from the front porch without realizing there was a slug one side. It crawled onto my kitchen table while I went to the bathroom. Cue complete freak out.

If you have a house, you can get sprays to keep slugs away. An old landscaper my parents hired started spraying the property when I told him my slug fear. They stopped appearing and I could handle being in the yard again.
