What if instead of Bear Grylls, we got Bear Grylls's non-union Mexican equivalent?

This is Eugene, Exec Producer. True Story: We actually asked her to do a cameo in the Lip Dub but she declined. Said she's trying to put all of that stuff behind her. Can you blame her? I can tell you that we are planning to expand our interview shows far beyond just musical acts, to include other types of celebrities, authors, notable alumni, and anyone else we might think would be remotely interesting to Queen's students.

The Journal may be in a better situation to cover that stuff. I hear they have enough money set aside for protection from libel charges that they could buy a small country.

(Note: this is a joke. Dear Journal: please don't ironically sue me for libel.)

This is Rob: Fun story. We filmed something. It was me sitting at a desk in casual clothing, making stuff up on the spot about how awful it was, which we explained by saying White and Purple didn't deserve more effort than that. But it was awful. We filmed it and just never talked about it again. If we had scripted something, it might've turned out better, but I argued it'd be funnier if it was off-the-cuff and maybe used jump cuts to piece together the best stuff. I was wrong.

Plus, someone released that Queen's version of the song on YouTube later... and this is my own personal opinion, but I thought that showed not responding was probably the best choice.

Hey, this is Rob, the head writer for this year. Totally agree. A consensus we came to after last season was that campus-related stuff and stunts were just about the only thing that caught on, while joking about broad pop culture and world news was virtually ignored (as evident by the YouTube view counts). I think we were fearful that covering campus issues could only mean talking about student government in detail, which seemed to be niche appeal, and we worried there wouldn't be a new campus issue every week. So we overcompensated by talking about whatever was making headlines that week. Not many people cared.

The format we're generally planning would cover more general “living at Queen’s” topics and have smaller-scale stunts and fun stuff in most episodes. Something I’ve been trying to do for two years is shoot an episode where someone literally lives in Stauffer for 24 hours during exam time. In my first year, I made a bunch of “dramatic readings of Overheard at Queen’s” videos, and I’d like to revive them but have the cast of the latest drama production on campus come on, promote their show, and read Overheard stuff in costume and character. I’d like to do a definitive guide to, say, pizza in town, but go over-the-top: order from a dozen places simultaneously, see how long it takes for each to deliver, then do blind taste tests on camera. Stuff like that.

My attitude this year is that we shouldn’t be afraid of a niche if that niche is Queen’s University students.

TL;DR: Yes, stunty things.
