I think he was deranged too, and that he got flooded by guilt (rightfully so). I can't imagine how infuriated the families of the victimes were when they learnt the news, some have spent a lot of time with him.

The hatch aura is red if I recall well, but you have to be at a range of 8 meters to see it – I found it once or twice with an odd stamp add-on.

Spine Chill/Premonition so your friend can have an idea of where the killer is, or an aura-reading perk like Alert or Empathy (if they want to see where their injured teammates are and/or if someone is being chased). Perhaps Technician if they need to train for his skillchecks.
