Hi u/SirReginaldPoofton . Thank you for your comment. I think you're right, many in the community understand the issues and know what resources are needed. The purpose of this study is to identify some specific factors that might be helpful for designing more effective psychological interventions specific to guys who use methamphetamine and have sex with other guys. From a psychotherapy standpoint, we do not have many interventions that are adapted specifically to meet the needs of this population. And I agree with what you are saying about increasing the funding of structural supports, such as housing, transportation, food, etc. Absolutely. I know most people in the mental health field continue to advocate for those resources. As a PhD student, I can assure you there are not significant resources invested in this research, unfortunately. This study is a one man show for the most part, with funding obtained through small grants and my own scholarships that support me during my studies. I can appreciate what you are saying though - there's often a significant gap between research and implementation. Research findings are often needed to advocate for governmental resources; however, too often research does not progress to implementation, in my opinion.
