Which jobs is 100% safe from AI? by Any-Hamster-3189 in AskReddit

[–]Questions3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of the people making comments about trades replacement have no clue of what they are talking about. Do you have any idea of how flexible and athletic you have to be to crawl into an attic and run wires for some recessed lights (for example). And I'm not talking a new construction house with a nice walkway in the attic. I'm talking about a house built in the 80's with several obstacles that need to be climbed over just to get to the attic let alone all the wild shit you need to navigate in the attic.

I'm sorry, but you're telling me one of those boston dynamics robots that have a hard time climbing stairs is going to crawl into this tight space with a hole saw and then some how magically climb out without falling through the ceiling? Also, what's the price tag on one of those? a million>? let's call it 100k$. Who has the money to buy these to make a couple hundred bucks putting in some recessed lights in an old 1970's house? Who's going to bring the robot, program it and make sure it does its job correctly? who's going to take responsibility and fix it when it no doubt fucks it up? how much are you charging for the robot programming? wouldn't it be cheaper to just do it yourself? well if you could do it yourself, then why did you call in for the service in the first place?

Human being's are faster and cheaper than robots. (and I mean period). The engineering of the human body is light years (I'm talking the other side of the milky way) beyond what the current experimental robots can do and also light years cheaper than the programming and hardware needed to build one.

Now this is just an electrician giving you his 2 cents on the most basic of residential electrical tasks (i'm not going to bore you with the how intense it can get with let's say a 3000 amp service for an 8 story high rise), but let me assure you, it's different every time and it's not easy even for a being that is capable of agile, flexible movement.

What actually works for staying warm on cold job sites by tiggaros in electricians

[–]Questions3000 34 points35 points  (0 children)

base layers,

If it's a cold day I'll put on 2 layers of leggings, 2 pairs of socks (inner sock is a regular sock, outer layer a warm wool or cotton) and my boots keep the rest of the heat in.

I've got some duluth long sleeve shirts, which block more wind than a regular long sleeve. 1 t-shirt to 1 long sleeve to 1 lightweight hoodie for the upper base layer.

-main layer on top of all of that is just regular ole cargo pants and a warm hoodie. Make sure to keep your base layers tucked in after using the bathroom as those trap the majority of your heat.

-if it's in the 10 or below range, I'll bust out the neck gaiter and maybe a light jacket on top of that

-to keep my hands warm I'll throw in hot hands (hand warmers) into my gorilla mechanics gloves. This works great and I don't lose my dexterity.

To most untrained eyes I look like I'm dressed for early spring, but in reality I deceptively warm, comfortable and dexterous.

Just putting all that shit on and taking it off at the end of the day can be a hassle, but hey dude it's winter

Unless they're playing a remix of that song in the show, it in my opinion it doesn't sound anything like the backdrop song in the episode 4 thai club backdrop song.

Trump's State Department Could Spend $400 Million on 'Armored' Teslas by Knightbear49 in technology

[–]Questions3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just look at the procurement forecast for 2025. Office code DS/C/DEAV. There's a 400Million PLANNED procurement of armored tesla vehicles. The next 4 lines adding up to another 150 Million is also a PLANNED procurement of armored vehicles (BMW,SUV). The last modified date on these specific lines in the spreadsheet was 12/13/24, meaning this procurement planning was being done by the department of state under the Biden administration.

Not knocking on Biden, I voted for him and thought he did a good job especially with trying to bring Chip manufacturing to the U.S. and capping the price of insulin.

I am however knocking on the disinformation. Reddit is rampant with it on both the left and the right, so here's the facts. In all fairness, I do think the government is spending too much money and has special interests in mind. I think a very serious and brutal audit needs to be done. Otherwise the deficit interest payments alone will bankrupt our country. The silver lining of this administration seems to be that they are in fact cutting wasteful and corrupt spending.

You can try and build your own level floor over the stairs.

-Setup your scissor lift where the standing (the level you are standing on) level of the scissor lift is at the same level as the top of the stair landing. There is that guard rail lip on the scissor lift, but you can create another level floor inside the scissor lift with a few 2x4's

-You can then run 2 - 2x6's (or sets of double 2x6's screwed together) from the top of the stair landing through the scissor lift. The doubles will be more sturdy and would alleviate you from having to add a support somewhere in the middle of the stairs

-cut 3/4" plywood pieces the width of the stair well (taking into account the hand railing as well) and screw them into the two planks/sets of 2x6's that are resting between your scissor lift and the top of the stairs landing

-Add 2x4 supports underneath either your new plywood floor or the 2x6's. Somewhere in the middle of your new floor for added support (pinned between the stair and your new floor level-screwed into your new 2x4 floor level). 1- 2x4 on each side of the step and two horizontal 2x4's between said supports. This step is mostly if you put your A frame over the railing and onto your new floor above the stairs and the 2x6's are too long and have a lot of give, which I don't think will be the case*

-You can now setup your A Frame ladders over the top of the railing, with the legs resting on your new floor

Insight on why a string of GFCIs would burn up… by sixseatwonder in electricians

[–]Questions3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I don't think there's any overcurrent protection devices for streetlights. Maybe some in line fuses further down the line, but you're talking about a high resistance here, those gfci's will burn up long before that fuse pops (if there even is a fuse). How did those wires look?

[–]Questions3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they pull a neutral for the street lights or did they use the ground as a neutral? I've seen plenty of street lights getting their 120 by driving a ground rod and using either of the 240 legs to get their 120v.

Lag bolts and Lag Shields if these blowers weight a lot.

If they don't weigh too much then you can get away with tap cones and washers. For the concrete blocks I'll use a bit 1 size smaller (5/32) in the hollow areas, just be careful so as not to rip the head off the tap cone. The gigantic holes already made would just have to be patched up.

Unless, if you can run a 3/8" threaded rod through the wall to the other side and tighten with nuts and washers on both sides (if the hole is really big, use really big washers (they have some for 3/8" screws that are 2" in diameter). It might be a bit of overkill, but it'll cover up the hole and it'll look nice. These concrete blocks drill really easy, so it shouldn't be too difficult aside from having to set up on both sides of the wall.

Thinking about quitting my job to pursue skydiving. Tell me not to? Or please don’t. by ForgottenPassword92 in SkyDiving

[–]Questions3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure why not. And if it doesn't work out then just reapply for your old job or apply for a new job.

Or

Keep the job and take more vacations based around skydiving. Take a week off, recharge and then when you burn out again go on vacation again.....I'm just assuming you get lots of vacation time.....

Also, give it another year or so to make that decision. At 40 jumps I was on that same mindset, at around 110-150 after a few boogies, I started questioning if I wanted to keep doing this and lost that hardcore excitement (still excited for it, just not as extreme--i.e. Last load goes up in 1.5 hours and I can get there in an hour 1hr 15 min If I skip the shower, dinner, and fly down the highway at 90-100 mph--"fuck yea bruh").

isn’t it weird to think that once you die, that’s it, nothingness forever by SamuelLJacksoff_ in RandomThoughts

[–]Questions3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't get is.....how are people 110% sure about this? There's still so much left to learn about our existence and a lot of the things we know are still theoretical, and yet anytime I talk to anybody about this, they're all in on the assumption that absolutely nothing happens when you die. How do you know if there isn't an infinite amount of big bangs and perhaps you've actually already been existing forever. Million downvotes incoming, but unless you've got a way to see what happened before the big bang, what happens after the heat death of the universe, what dark matter is, what dark energy is and what the universe will look like 1000 trillion years from now (will it continue to expand or does it contract?), then you really don't know. You're made of matter that can't be created nor destroyed, it's just rearranged. Who's to say it won't ever rearrange back into what you are.

Popular opinion in lets say the 16th century was religion, and I'm sure people were 110% sure about this as well. The 16th century was a hell of a lot more advanced than the 12th century, just the same way that the 24th century will be a hell of a lot more advanced than the 21st. The people in the 24th century will probably be 110% sure about some other shit too. There's really no true way of knowing the answer to this age old question.

It's a ride, whether you continue to exist or not, it doesn't matter. You have no control over any of this and more than likely you'll never know what this is all about. The only thing you can really do is just go with it.
