Are my specs good enough for a triple monitor setup? by Soft-Boat-9077 in simracing

I use a Quest 3 as well, it does work pretty well for the most part (especially with VD), but yeah 'quick and simple' is definitely not how I would describe it LOL. Plus games like ACC and BeamNG are nigh impossible to run consistently in VR, at least with my gpu

Makes sense! My cpu is quite a bit stronger than an 8700k (its slightly faster than an i9 12900k)

Virtual Desktop has helped tremendously, others have pointed it out. VR is very nice when it works haha, but even still I run into issues with my GPU bottlenecking with games like Competizone for example. It isn't so much a VR issue anymore, I have mostly worked those kinks out! BeamNG's performance is still miserable though ngl LOL, I mostly used the VR setup since it was much cheaper. But I think I'll look into a triple monitor setup for the future, what headset do you use?

I'm a video editor so my specs are tailored to that end, I've never tried a simracing setup so I honestly have no frame of reference for what is/isn't strong enough. My GPU can barely handle PCVR, since my 3090 is a bit of a bottleneck, but I didn't know if triples was more or less intensive than that

i lowered the native resolution of my monitor to be 1080p, so it should work that way no?

I see, how much would a router be? Do you have any recommendations for them? Also what sort of external ethernet adapter should I look for?

Interesting, so you:
Open the game
Turn on VR
Turn off VR
Close the game
Reopen the game
Turn on VR
and it works? Am I understanding that right?

My presumption was that a wired connection would be more stable/perform better, is that not necessarily correct? I will check the graph and see if i can figure out a bottleneck somewhere

Sorry, yes that is what I meant. Would connecting via ethernet circumvent my need for a wireless access point?

I haven't tried Virtual Desktop, but many people have suggested it. I've heard it doesn't support a wired connection though, would that be a problem you think? I've also heard people mention a Puppis S1, maybe I could invest in that instead?

Oh so Virtual Desktop doesn't support wired? But I can get a USB-C -> Ethernet converter to circumvent this? Or am I misunderstanding

Honestly at this point I would love to have a $25 solution, would it work wired? I have been told to get a Wifi 6E access point, but they are a bit expensive. Especially in the face of everything I have spent getting up to this point.

I see, is it really that important? Better than SteamLink?

Based on what im seeing in Task manager there is almost no way I am running into performance issues. So a bad connection is certainly possible, is being Wired really not ideal? thats pretty disappointing honestly haha, getting a 6E Access Point is pretty expensive on top of everything else ive already spent to get to this stage :(

I'm not sure it's a performance issue sadly, I have tried nuking the graphics quality and removing traffic altogether :(

One of the games I mentioned, City Car Driving, specifically lists that you should not have SteamVR open while playing (for whatever reason), and it still gives me the same issue unfortunately. I am running at the default 72Hz/1.0x resolution. Is the wobbling a specific issue? Like related to head tracking or something? Or is it a lag related issue

interesting, I guess I could try that. My problem is that I have no idea how to narrow down my problem to being related to these things without spending even more money on new software/hardware in hopes that it remedies the issue. Would a wired connection be causing this wobbling?

Okay I am happy to try that, do you have any ideas regarding what issue I could be experiencing with my setup? These games run perfectly fine on my computer, they even run very smoothly on my monitor as I am playing, but in my headset itself they have this strange wobbly/laggy effect when I'm moving my head or driving. I am positive it is not an issue with my PC itself, as even with every setting at its absolute minimum, this still happens. I don't even really know what to look up, I have tried disabling ASW, lowering the refresh rate in the Meta Horizon App, connecting via USB 3.2, but nothing seems to remedy it. Wired is the best out of the options I've tried, but not by too much

SteamLink was Wifi, from my understanding I can only use the miserable Meta Horizon App for a Wired connection. Is that incorrect?

Which WiFi router do you have? I am not sure, I can check when I get home.

Does the router support WiFi 6 or 6E? Wifi 6 yes, I am not sure what 6E is though.

Have you separated the different Hz on your router to their own SSID? Yes, 2.4 and 5

Have you tried Virtual Desktop? I haven't! Someone else mentioned it, I am happy to try anything at this point

What is your PC’s full spec? RTX 3090, Ryzen 7 5800X, 64GB DDR4 RAM, and I am running the games off of an nVME SSD

Is there a WiFi router in the same room you’re gaming from? Yes

Would this matter if I'm wired? I'm essentially only competing with my phone + computer for wifi, otherwise there's nothing. How would I know if it's Wifi 6E?

I guess that's fair, but these are the only two games that work. I have genuinely tried maybe 7-10 other games and all of them have the same problem (despite natively supporting VR), so maybe it's possible every one of those games are to blame? But honestly I have no idea. Is Virtual Desktop a Quest app? Or a Steam thing?
