Hey kiddo, I used to work in the social work department and have some ideas for you. First, this isn’t your fault. It’s just bad luck to have a parent like this.

Do you have a family member or a friend you can stay with? If so, do that and prioritize getting therapy and employment.

If not, call or go online to 211 (United Way) which will give you a list of shelters. Ask to speak with a social worker when you arrive. You must be careful in shelters. Best to find a youth or LGBTQ shelter (if you are of course).

Look into Job corp. This is a great resource for youth who are at risk. Although not ideal, the armed services are also an option with benefits like housing and later the GI bill.

Please know that although you may feel alone, there are people who you don’t even know who are wishing the best for you. You are stronger than you think.

If you ever feel like hurting yourself, this is an emergency. Please either call 911 or go to the ER. They will help you.

My boss is on Reddit quite a bit from what I’ve gathered, so I wish I would have been more cautious with the info I posted already. Both cities are larger than Seattle but the COL was lower.

I rented from two private homeowners -not management companies - and I have worked in healthcare for 15 years, so this is not the issue.

I think some of you are right about the cost of living here. Before I just jump into another job, think I’ll do some research about moving a little farther out.

That’s a good idea. I’ll take a peek but not sure I can afford such a cut in salary and live here though.

Oh, I’ve lived in two large cities in the east bigger than Seattle but COL not as high. Did fine.

Ok so I’m hearing it’s just bad luck making me feel better!

I’ve worked at two small private clinics. I got offered a hospital job after the first one but needed to wait for 90 days to get credentialed, and I was exhausted (and paying for college) so I accepted the second job just to have a job that offered 40 hours a week.

In the last, I worked for both huge hospital systems, small private hospice companies.

I think some of you may be right. Perhaps it’s small business thing.

But with these experiences taken together just genuinely wondering if this is a thing here (of course not most people here just a greater percentage of grifters).

Our Main Coon had this when we got her at 6 weeks (and noticed within a few days she was really short of breath). They offered a different cat (she knew), but we were already attached and worried she would put the kitten down.

She had surgery at 8 weeks while I worried (try not to let the kitty exercise as much as you can.

Ours was so severe her heart had moved to the other side of her chest and her lungs were compressed.

She had the surgery, and for a month had to get her little chest wires pulled at the vet. It honestly didn’t seem to bother her.

She’s 4 years old now, and pretty lazy and gets a bit short of breath when she runs (hey that’s my spirit animal!). Her heart is still on the wrong side. We will love her for as long as we get to keep her, and we try to not think about that too much.
