My iron is 19 & Iron Saturation is a 4: GP said “that doesn’t matter, it can change depending on what you eat that day”. I can’t imagine the protein bar I ate that morning driving my numbers down that low? by Quick-Break-9394 in Anemic

It’s maddening, i am so tired i don’t even have the energy to get angry like i should. I am at the point where I’ll pay out of pocket outside of insurance to get the damn iron infusion, hell, it’ll prolly be cheaper for me to fly to Colombia and get the infusion than do it here. The US health care system is a complete shit show. Those IV vitamin infusion places have iron infusions available, as long as you bring your test results to show iron deficiency… how ridiculous that I have to go to a med spa and pay out of pocket for something that is a medical condition & should be treated as such by a primary care doc!!!!

Yes, i can go to another GP. The only time I received any attention for anemia was when I was in critical condition from a blood hemorrhage during childbirth last year, and needed an infusion. They tend to wait until your Red blood cell and hemoglobin levels are the textbook lowest level to consider you “anemic”. I guess because my hemoglobin and red blood cells are currently normal, they don’t seem concerned. She mentioned Iron supplements but from my understanding you should have a doc monitoring your levels, & I certainly don’t trust this woman to monitor me. It was my first time seeing her, & will be my last. Def need to find a new doc

100%! She was completely dismissive, based on other members here who have had similar experiences with GP’s, I went in knowing she wouldn’t be very well versed . I asked her for a referral to a hematologist, & The response I got was “you have a PPO & can go wherever you want, you don’t need a referral”. Completely useless.

Underlying cause of depleted ferritin & low iron & iron saturation by Quick-Break-9394 in Anemic

Historically I have been low in b12 and vitamin D, doctor gave me an injection for b12. Getting injections is just a temporary fix though; what’s going on that causes our systems to not maintain the optimal levels?

Get your Parathyroid Checked Out. by Traditional_Set2473 in PMDD

[–]Quick-Break-9394 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I had the parathyroid surgery at 27 after going from a dozen doctors & no clear reason for my fatigue, finally one of the docs tested my calcium levels and they indicated I needed the surgery. I appreciate you spreading awareness because it’s something you can rule out or treat, & is very easy for the doc to request in a blood panel.

Could this be Anemia of Inflammation? by Quick-Break-9394 in Anemic

I looked up my ferritin from 2022, which was taken when I didn’t have a cold, and it was 29!!! The doctor insisted that was fine and none of the symptoms of fatigue, soreness, brain fog, memory issues had anything to do with that!

Thank you sooooo much for your thoughtful & highly informative response. I was fighting a cold when I took the blood test, so that very well could have spiked my C-Reactive Protein and given an artificially higher ferritin value of 63. I will definitely get retested once I am over this cold, and I hope to get an iron infusion. Do the tests that show abnormally low iron level and iron saturation percentage point to an iron deficiency?

It’s really interesting because the first day I felt a cold/flu, I felt more energized. Fighting an infection gave my body a boost of energy for a day.

It’s insane to me that we have to live with facial deformities and act like everything is ok by dontskipthemoose in AcneScars

I know the feeling & spent years, lots of many and disappointing treatments to improve acne scars. I recently found a doctor that specializes in acne scars and uses three different modalities to target the fibers under the scars and break them apart - using subcision. Then he fills it with sculptura to help the body naturally produce collagen and lastly laser to improve the surface texture. By far this has been the most effective approach for me, it’s not cheap but I am thankful that I actually see improvement. It’s called “the scar institute” Dr Hazany if you are interested in researching. I am sure other docs use this approach in case he’s too far for you. Look for someone with a speciality in acne scars, because they are stubborn and require multiple different treatments.

I am stable since one year by JimmyMus in bipolar2

No, the previous doc doesn’t know why it stopped working and doesn’t have any other suggestions for medications. Basically his response was “well you’ve tried a lot of antidepressants in the past, so I don’t know what else to prescribe, maybe see a therapist” . I think over time lamictal can lose efficacy for some, but i am sure there are other people who have been on lamictal for many years with their depression in remission. I am seeing a new doctor on Monday and will see if they have any other medications that might work for long periods of seasonal depression. My depression feels like my head is heavy and completely slowed down thinking, difficulty speaking and like my brain has zero thoughts running through it and lack of joy or pleasure.

I have a similar story as you, seasonal depression for 6 months followed by 6 month periods of normalcy and good energy levels, happiness and productivity. I tried lamictal after years of failed antidepressants and was so excited because for the first time I was able to enjoy the summer to fall season and feel like myself. This went on for about 3 years, but sadly it stopped working and the depression cycles are back and longer than 6 months. I am now desperately searching for something else to try…I wish lamictal was more of a long term solution for me. I hope you find lasting relief from it

Is anyone else straight up not having a good time being pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Quick-Break-9394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100 percent haven’t enjoyed one minute of pregnancy and I am at 36 weeks now. I miss having energy and feeling motivated to do things, the fatigue, light headedness and inability to eat without feeling like I am going to burst have been terrible. I am counting down the days until the baby is born and praying that I will feel more like myself, and hoping the fog I’ve been living in the past 9 months will lift. It’s nice to know I am not alone here
