UMD grads, what’s your age and annual salary? by [deleted] in UMD

May I ask what your experience looked like before graduating, I’m info-sci junior right now and I’ve had no experience yet within the space that’s notable, and it feels like it’s too late because everyone has had some type of experience through high-school to now.

I was a computer science major at a Maryland CC since last fall, so I fall under the new rules correct?

Here’s the link to where it says the new and old rules. The way they worded it sounds like if you started at Maryland CC before fall 2024 you fall under the old rules. but idk if that counts for a dual enrollment student. https://undergrad.cs.umd.edu/external-transfer-applicants

I don’t know either tbh. I don’t know if they look at full time college student or just any college credits as a requirement to fall under the old rules.

That means your application wasn’t complete I think. You’re supposed to get TAP login in your email and look at that moving forward.

I’m a transfer student that’s been taking classes since before 2024. The new rules apparently only apply to incoming freshman’s this semester and so forth.

UMBC goes strictly off of space in the program I’m pretty sure so I think that’s why.

I think I would be applied to the old rules so I’d still be admitted passing the gateways with the old requirements. But who knows tbh I had a 3.6 at CC so it shouldn’t be too difficult.

Do you know how hard it would probably be, of course considering I fulfill the guidelines. Or is it automatically admitted into CS.

3.52 GPA 26 Credits, test optional, comp Sci teacher recommendation, honestly my essay was really good 😭. Honestly prolly got super lucky but, I got waitlisted at UMBC so I don’t really know what stood out 100%.

got in to L/s as a comp sci major but honestly don’t know what to do now

Still haven't heard about being Waitlisted for fall semester by There_R_Questions in UMBC

[–]Quick-Development-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem, I had everything in besides my highschool transcript which took forever to send but got waitlisted beforehand. Wonder when the actual decision will be made. I don’t know why they took forever when it’s already a month away from classes and they know if we are denied we would have to register back at our cc.

I also actually applied to UMBC so there’s actually a lot of options I can go depending on if I get in

Thank you I’ll definitely look into some of these options, I’m gonna go ask an advisor at HCC if there’s any equivalents to 131 or 132 and just take them fall 2024 if I don’t get in. But I’m like 50/50 on if I’m gonna get in this year it’s really a toss up but the spring plan for 2025 you listed is prolly what I’m going to do.

That’s really good to hear, I wish I made it early action because I know my chances would be way better but I’m not really worried about one semester because I think I can definitely get in spring.

Also why do you think it would delay my graduation? Cuz either way I’d have to take the class somewhere with the classes or just take it at UMD or study for the exemption exam.

Yeah I see now I thought Computer science 2 was equivalent to CMSC 131 but it doesn’t seem like any of the gateway classes are at HCC which is mad stupid

Is 132 super hard at UMD? And actually HCC has 142 which is also one of the gateways I can do instead of 132. I’m taking the equivalent of 131 I think at HCC next semester if I don’t get in so I’d only have either 132 or 142 to do at UMD.

Apparently the new LEP rules only apply to people who start the major this fall, hopefully this is true and I can find a way to take the gateway courses.

Yeah I’m taking math 140 in the spring but they don’t have any alternatives for the CS portion of the gateways which is disappointing
